Enhancing citizens' satisfaction through the implementation of the municipal & local police system is the most important task to establish the system and achieve the ideology of local autonomy. This study proposes the following in order to improve citizen satisfaction according to the implementation of the municipal & local police system based on the major policies of the municipal & local police committees of each city and province and the police agencies, and previous studies. First, activation of community policing activities. In order to enhance the satisfaction of citizens in the municipal & local police system, it is necessary to promote the activation of community policing activities that are differentiated from the existing ones. In other words, it is necessary to develop customized community policing activities suitable for regional characteristics. Second, it is necessary to strengthen public relations activities for the municipal & local police system. It is necessary to actively and proactively strengthen promotional activities for the municipal & local police system through various methods such as online and offline. Third, activation of citizens' participation. It is necessary to expand citizens' participation in the municipal & local police police system through the development and dissemination of participatory programs suitable for local conditions. Fourth, strengthen education. Through the diversification and internalization of interactive online education implemented by the National Police Agency, it will be possible to improve the professionalism, service, and kindness of municipal & local police officers.

자치경찰제의 실시로 인해 시민들의 만족도를 제고시키는 것은 제도의 정착 및 지 방자치의 이념을 달성하기 위해서 가장 중요한 과제이다. 본 연구는 시․도별 자치경찰위원회와 시․도 경찰청의 주요 시책, 그리고 선행연구 등을 토대로 자치경찰제 실시에 따른 시민만족도를 제고하기 위해 다음과 같이 제언하 고자 한다. 첫째, 지역사회 경찰활동의 활성화이다. 자치경찰제에서 시민들의 만족도를 제고하 기 위해서는 기존과는 차별화된 지역사회 경찰활동의 활성화를 추진할 필요가 있다. 즉, 지역특색에 맞는 맞춤형 지역사회 경찰활동의 전개가 필요하다. 둘째, 자치경찰제에 대한 홍보활동의 강화가 필요하다. 온․오프라인 병행 등 다양 한 방법으로 적극적이고 능동적으로 자치경찰제에 대해 홍보활동을 강화할 필요가 있 다. 셋째, 시민들의 참여 활성화이다. 지역실정에 적합한 참여 프로그램의 개발 및 보급 등을 통해 자치경찰제에 시민들의 참여를 확대할 필요가 있다. 넷째, 교육강화이다. 경찰청에서 시행하고 있는 양방향 온라인 교육의 다양화 및 내실화를 통해 자치경찰공무원들의 전문성 및 봉사성 그리고 친절성 등을 향상시킬 수 있을 것이다.
