This study tries to identify how the loneliness of the elderly living alone affects life satisfaction and to verify mediating effects of social support. For the purpose of this study, data on variables have been collected from 199 elders living alone in city Y, and the analyzed effect relationship between variables is as follows. First, it was confirmed that the loneliness of the elderly living alone had a negative relationship with social support, life satisfaction, and relationships. Second, it was confirmed that the loneliness of the elderly living alone takes a significant negative effect on life satisfaction. Third, social support showed a statistically meaningful meditating effect between loneliness and the life satisfaction of the elderly living alone. Based on such, it is confirmed that the loneliness of the elderly living alone is an internal factor that can reduce life satisfaction, and that positivity of social support can contribute to the improvement of loneliness and life satisfaction of the elderly living alone.

본 연구는 독거노인의 고독감이 삶의 만족도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 파악하고 사회적 지지의 매개효 과를 검증하고자 하였다. 연구를 위해 Y시에 거주하는 독거노인 199명을 대상으로 변인에 관한 설문자료를 수집 해 변인 간 영향 관계를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 독거노인의 고독감은 사회적지지, 삶의 만족도와 관계 에서 부(-)적 관계를 가지고 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 둘째, 독거노인의 고독감은 삶의 만족도에 유의한 부(-)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 셋째, 독거노인의 고독감과 삶의 만족도의 영향 경로에서 사회적 지지가 통계 적으로 유의한 매개효과를 보였다. 따라서 독거노인의 고독감은 삶의 만족도를 감소시킬 수 있는 내적 요인이며, 사회적 지지의 긍정성이 독거노인의 고독감과 삶의 만족도 향상에 기여할 수 있음을 실증적으로 확인하였다.
