    본 연구소는 첫째, 사회과학대학 내의 사회학, 심리학, 정치학, 경제학, 행정학의 5개 개별학과 및 학제 간 연구활동을 지원하고 아울러 공공정책 분야의 정책문제에 대한 현실적 대안을 제시하고자 설립되었습니다. 이를 위해서 연구소 내에는 분야별 연구센터 기하부조직으로 구성되어 있습니다. 둘째, 2009년부터 교육과학기술부(한국연구재단)의 대학중점연구소사업에 선정되어 '사회적 기업'분야를 전문적으로 연구하며 국가적 지원을 받는 대학중점연구소의 기능을 수행하고 있습니다. 이를 위해서 사회적 기업 분야의 이론적 토대와 및 실제로 사회적 기업을 창설하고 운영하며, 모니터링과 평가를 하고 이를 통해서 일자리 창출을 지속적으로 가능하게 할 수 있는 모델구축에 박차를 가하고 있습니다. 본 연구소에 도움이 될 수 있는 건설적인 아이디어를 많이 제공해 주시기를 바라며 아룰러 학제 간 연구를 위한 담론의 장이 될 수 있기를 기대합니다.
