This Study analyzes the impact of Korean overseas construction on domestic economy using economic historical approach and empirical analysis. Triggered by entering Thailand market in 1965, overseas construction is assessed that it played an important role to overcome the twice of oil shock, and secured finances for economic development through winning approximately $400 billion construction contracts during 45years. Additionally, the research shows that obtaining foreign currency through winning overseas construction contracts is effective on increment of domestic employment and contributes to GDP. In order to analyze these effects empirically, for dynamic analyses, impulsive response function analysis and variance decomposition analysis were conducted through error correcting model by using the total amount of overseas construction contracts for 40 year from 1970 to 2010, domestic macro variables as gross fixed capital formation, the rate of increment in construction and equipment investment and economic growth variables. Major analysis results shows that the impact of overseas construction contracts has mostly positive effect on domestic macro variables. However, the analysis of the data after 1990 shows that the impact of overseas construction contracts are limited, but positive. As follows, the fundamental cause that overseas construction could affect on domestic economy can be assessed as it was possible because of the efficient system of government and the assertive adaptability to environment of domestic company and the entrepreneurial spirit.

우리나라 해외건설은 1965년 태국진출을 시작으로 45년간 약 4,000억 달러에 이르는 수주를 통하여 경제개발에 필요한 재원 마련과 두 번에 걸친 오일쇼크를 극복하는데 큰 역할을 한 것으로 평가받고 있다. 그 외에도 해외건설수주를 통한 외화가득은 국내총생산 기여 및 국내의 고용증대 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 효과를 경제사적 접근과 실증적으로 분석하기 위하여 1970년에서 2010년까지 40년의 해외건설 수주액과 국내거시변수인 총고정자본형성, 건설투자 및 설비투자 증가율 그리고 국내총생산(GDP) 변수를 이용하여 동태적 분석을 위하여 오차수정모형 을 통한 충격반응함수 분석과 분산분해 분석을 시행하였다. 주요 분석결과는 해외건설수주로 인한 충격이 국내 거시변수에 주는 영향은 전체 기간에서 미미하나 대체적으로 양(+)의 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 1990년 이후 기간에서는 해외건설수주로 인한 영향이 여전히 양(+)의 효과를 가졌으나, 충격에 대한 반응은 제한적인 것으로 나타났다.
