This researcher considered that the theoretical significance of Piaget's concept of egocentrism in the field of study pursuing empirical science was reduced or distorted. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of expanding the theoretical application of Piaget's egocentrism through academic re-examination and deeper understanding on the concept. First of all, by examining the theoretical uniqueness of Piaget's theory as a meta-theory, this study attempted to understand the concept of egocentrism in the theoretical context of genetic epistemology. This study then pointed out some misconceptions about egocentrism commonly known in psychology, and explained the transition process of egocentrism at each stage of cognitive development. Finally, this study revealed that egocentrism has a continuous connection with various concepts of modern psychology and suggested the creative and extended use of concepts related to Piaget's egocentrism.

본 연구는 경험과학을 추구하는 학문분야에서 Piaget의 자기중심성 개념이 갖는 이론적 의미가 크게 축 소되어 있거나 왜곡되어 있다고 보고, 이에 대한 재조명과 심화된 이해를 통해 자기중심성 개념에 대한 이론적 적 용을 확대할 목적으로 수행되었다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 우선 메타이론으로서 Piaget 이론이 갖고 있는 이론 적 독특성을 검토함으로써 발생적 인식론이라는 이론적 맥락에서 자기중심성 개념이 어떻게 이해되어야 하는지를 조명하였다. 그리고 심리학에서 흔히 알려져 있는 자기중심성 개념에 대한 몇 가지 오해들을 지적하는 한편, 각각 의 인지발달 단계에서 자기중심성의 발현과 변이과정을 설명하였다. 끝으로, 자기중심성이 현대 심리학의 여러 개 념들과 지속적인 연관성을 가지고 있음을 밝히고 이와 관련한 창의적이고 확장된 개념적 활용을 제언하였다.
