The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence and associated factors of dry eye disease (DED) in Korean adults aged 40 years or older. A total of 2,784 people (1,273 males, 1,511 females) were included in this study using the 2018 KNHANES data. Other ophthalmic diseases, history of ophthalmic surgery, depression and cancer were applied as exclusion criteria, and DED was divided into diagnosed and non-diagnosed subjects. The variables used were age, house income, education level, smoker (heavy, light, no), passive smoke, age of starting smoking daily, working hours at near, and mental health (PHQ-9). DED was 3.7% in male and 12.6% in female (p<0.001). There were more DED among female who smoked lightly or heavily compared to nonsmokers (p=0.002), and those who started smoking daily under the age of 19 compared to the age of 20 or older (p=0.011). Smoking and depressive symptoms are related to DED, you need to be careful not to increase your depressive symptoms by quitting smoking and lowering psychological stress and fatigue in the presence of DED.

국내 만 40세 이상 성인 남녀를 대상으로 안구건조증의 유병률과 관련요인을 알아보고자 하였다. 본 연구 는 2018년 국민건강영양조사 자료를 이용하여 총 2,784명(남자 1,273명, 여자 1,511명)을 대상으로 하였다. 제외기준 으로 기타 안과질환, 과거 안과수술, 우울증 및 암 진단을 받은 경우를 적용하였고, 안구건조증은 진단받은 경우와 그렇지 않은 경우로 구분하였다. 변수는 연령, 가구소득, 교육수준, 흡연정도(과흡연, 흡연, 비흡연), 간접흡연, 매일 흡연시작 연령, 근거리 작업시간, 정신건강(PHQ-9)을 사용하였다. 안구건조증은 남성에서 3.7%, 여성에서 12.6%이 었다(p<0.001). 여성에서 흡연 및 과흡연자는 비흡연자보다, 그리고 19세 이하에 매일 흡연을 시작한 경우는 20세 이상에 시작한 경우보다 안구건조증 환자가 많았다(p=0.011). 여성 안구건조증 그룹의 PHQ-9의 총점은 2.97 점으 로 대조군의 2.31 점보다 높았다(P<0.001). 흡연과 우울 증상은 안구건조증과 연관성이 있으므로 안구건조증이 있 을 경우에는 흡연을 멈추고, 심리적 스트레스와 피로도를 낮추어 우울 증상이 증가하지 않도록 주의할 필요가 있다.
