The purpose of this study was to analyze the grandparents' perception, current status, and needs of grandchildren rearing. The subjects of this study were 176 grandparents who are participating grandchildren rearing in Seoul metropolitan region. For this purpose, the questionnaire was developed based on the prior research. The questionnaire is composed of 23 questions with following areas: ‘the grandparents’ perception of grandchild rearing’, ‘current status of grandchild rearing’, ‘the needs of grandchild rearing’. The collected data were analyzed by frequency analysis and chi-square(χ2) using SPSS 25.0 program. As a result of this study, it was found that grandparents are aware of the importance of performing various roles during grandchildren rearing when replace the vacancy of the primary caregiver. Also, it was found that grandparents play the most import role in meeting the basic needs of their grandchildren. On the other hand, it was found that grandparents experience physical and psychological exhaustion during grandchildren rearing. Furthermore, there was a demand for policy support and systematic education in order to support grandparents. The results of this study will not only serve as a basis for policy that support grandparents, but also provide meaningful information for the development of grandparents' support programs.

본 연구는 손자녀를 양육하고 하고 있는 조부모를 대상으로 손자녀 양육 인식과 실태, 양육지원을 위한 요구를 밝히는 데에 그 목적이 있다. 연구대상은 수도권 지역에서 손자녀 양육을 하고 있는 조부모 176명이다. 본 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 선행연구를 참고하여 설문지를 구성하고 배부하여 연구 자료를 수집하였다. 본 연구에서 개발한 설문지는 ‘조부모의 손자녀 양육 인식’, ‘조부모의 손자녀 양육 실태’, ‘조부모의 손자녀 양육 요구’로 총 3개 영역으로 구분하였으며, 총 문항 수는 23문항이었다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 25.0 프로그램을 사용하여 빈도분석과 카이-자승분석(χ2)을 통해 분석하였다. 이를 통해 조부모의 일반적 배경, 배경변인에 따른 조부모의 손자녀 양육 인식 및 실태, 요구를 분석하였다. 연구결과, 조부모는 손자녀 양육에서 다양한 역할 수행의 중요성을 인식하고 있으며, 주 양육자의 공백을 대신하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 조부모는 손자녀의 기본적인 욕구충족을 위해 가장 많은 역할을 수행하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 조부모는 손자녀 양육 시 신체적, 심리적 소진을 겪고 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 나아가 조부모의 손자녀 양육 지원을 위해 정책적 지원과 체계적 조부모교육이 필요하다는 요구가 있었다. 본 연구결과는 조부모의 손자녀 양육 지원 정책의 기초가 될 뿐 아니라 조부모 양육지원 프로그램 개발에 의미 있는 정보를 제공할 것으로 기대한다.
