This study seeks to reflect on the phenomenon in which existing domestic fear of crime research is being formalized based on sociological models, and to apply the concept proposed by the Construal Leven Theory among social psychological theories. In particular, based on the risk interpretation model of Ferraro(1995) and the modified risk interpretation model of Kim(2016), we propose the psychological distance concept of Trope & Liberman(2010) as a substitute for the percieved risk concept. This study examines the suitability of the existing risk interpretation model or the modified risk interpretation model to explain the fear of crime and the factors that influence it. As a result of the study, in the process of examining the relationship between the major variables, an inconsistent mediation model analysis was additionally performed on the negative influence relationship between risk perception and self-protection behavior, and the logic of application of the construal level theory was discovered. Finally, psychological distance had a mediating effect on disorder and fear of crime, and it was found that disorder had an effect on self-protection behavior by double mediating psychological distance and fear of crime. This study is significant in that it seeks to expand the theory by applying a psychological perspective to the discussion of fear of crime. Subsequent studies need to further review the four sub-dimensions of psychological distance.

이 연구는 기존 국내의 범죄두려움 연구가 사회학적 이론모델을 기초로 정형화되고 있는 현상에 대한 반성과 함께 사회심리학적 이론 가운데 해석수준이론이 제안하고 있 는 개념의 적용을 모색하고 있다. 특히 Ferraro(1995)의 위험해석모델과 수정된 위험해 석모델을 바탕으로 위험인식 개념을 대체할 수 있는 것으로 Trope & Liberman(2010) 의 심리적 거리 개념을 제안한다. 이 연구는 기존의 범죄두려움을 설명하는 위험해석모델이나 수정된 위험해석모델의 적합성과 그영향요인이 되는 변인들을 살펴보았다. 주요변인 사이의 관계를 검토한 결 과, 위험인식과 자기보호행동 사이의 부(-)적 영향관계에 대해 추가적으로 비일관적 매개모형분석을 실시하여 해석수준이론의 적용 논리를 발견하였다. 끝으로, 심리적 거 리가 무질서와 범죄두려움에 매개효과가 있었고, 자기보호행동에 대해서도 무질서가 심리적 거리 및 범죄두려움을 이중매개하여 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 범죄두려움 논의에 심리학적 관점을 적용하여 이론의 확장을 모색한 점 에서 의미가 크고, 후속하여 심리적 거리감의 하위차원에 대한 추가 연구가 필요하다.
