This paper emphasizes that TOD should be applied to various public transportation nodule points such as new town development as well as station area to induce eco-friendly and sustainable urban development originally intended by TOD. In particular, in considering the application of TOD to the station area, the purpose of the study is to examine domestic and foreign TOD application cases and analyze them to prepare efficient urban development application plans and present policy implications. As for the research method, collected and analyzed data by reviewing existing literature on domestic and foreign cases, analyzing statistical data, and searching related Internet websites. Through this, policy goals were set and applied by classifying them into urban planning and transportation planning. Based on this, as a result of the study, it was suggested that it is necessary to apply a high-rise and high-density compressed city form containing complex urban functions in order to apply TOD to the station area in terms of urban planning. In order to apply TOD to the station area in terms of transportation planning, it was confirmed that it was possible to enhance the application plan of public transportation, one of the public transportation means and traffic demand management techniques, as a transportation demand management technique in the station area.

본 고에서는 TOD가 본래 의도하는 친환경적이고 지속가능한 도시개발을 유도하기 위해서는 역세권은 물론 신도시개발 등과 같은 다양한 대중교통 결절점을 대상으로 TOD가 적용되어야 한다는 것을 강조하고 있다. 특히 역 세권에 TOD 적용을 고려함에 있어 국내와 외국의 TOD 적용사례를 살펴보고 이를 분석하여 효율적인 도시개발 적용 방안을 마련하고 정책적 시사점을 제시하는 데 연구의 목적을 두고 있다. 연구의 방법은 국내·외 사례에 대한 기존 문헌의 검토, 통계자료의 분석 및 관련 인터넷 홈페이지를 검색하여 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 이를 통해 정책목 표를 설정하고 도시계획차원과 교통계획차원으로 분류하여 적용방안을 제시하였다. 이를 바탕으로 연구결과, 도시계 획차원에서 TOD를 역세권에 적용하기 위해서는 복합적인 도시기능이 내포된 고층·고밀의 압축도시형태를 적용할 필 요가 있음을 제시하였다. 교통계획차원에서 TOD를 역세권에 적용하기 위해서는 역세권에 교통수요관리기법으로서 대 중교통수단과 교통수요관리기법의 하나인 대중교통전용지구 적용방안을 제고할 수 있음을 확인하였다.
