Pachinko is a work written in English by a Korean􋹲American author for Jainici family history and is a fierce survival record of existential individuals(family) from a post􋹲historical perspective. Regardless of the Master Narrative(Ethnic, Nation, History), the author focuses on the characters who live faithfully for the survival of the family, showing a different plots and narrative style from previous historical novels and family history novels. The author directly questioned Japanese society internal prejudice and errors against Pachinko by setting Pachinko, which was considered a taboo to Koreans in Japan, as the title and theme of the novel. It criticizes the injustice of the stigma labeling of “pachinko=illegal and violence” through honest and sincere Pachinko businessmen. This novel presents a new career path and possibility of Jainich Diaspora Literature with the story of Soon􋹲ja and her descendants(Mozasu･Solomon) overcoming realistic restrictions with a good nature as the core narrative.

Pachinko(『파친코』)는 재미동포 작가가 재일동포 가족사를 영어로 쓴 작품으로, 탈역사적인 관점에서 바라본 실존적 개인(가족)의 치열한 생존 기록이다. 작 가는 거대서사(민족･국가･역사)와 관련없이 가족의 생존을 위해 성실하게 살아가 는 인물에 초점을 맞춤으로써, 이전의 역사소설･가족사소설과 다른 구성과 서사 양식을 보여준다. 작가는 재일한국인들에게 금기로 여겨졌던 ‘파친코’를 소설의 제목과 주제로 설정하여, 파친코에 대한 일본 내부의 편견과 오류를 직접 문제 삼는다. 정직하고 성실한 파친코 사업가를 통해 ‘파친코=불법･폭력’의 낙인의 부당성을 비판하는 것이다. 이 소설은 선량한 본성으로 현실적 제약을 극복해가는 순자와 그 자손(모자수･ 솔로몬)의 이야기를 핵심서사로 하여 재일디아스포라 문학의 새로운 진로와 가능 성을 제시하고 있다.
