Hans Jonas proposes responsibility ethics as a new ethics to overcome the crisis in the era of science and technology. Responsibility ethics can be applied to various practical problems in our lives. A case in point is biotechnology. According to Jonas, it is the stage of biotechnology that waits for us at the end of the technological development process. Due to the excessive development of biotechnology, the idea of transforming human genetic structures or planning our descendants is no longer an illusion. By reaching the final stage of technological development, humans have finally become objects of science and technology itself. Jonas’ position on biotechnology research, such as the problem of genetic manipulation, is concise and determined. Only prevention of misfortune is allowed, and no attempt for a new kind of happiness should be allowed. In this study, this was called the principle of preventing unfortunate consequences and attempted to propose it as a tentative ethical principle applied to the problem of biotechnology as an application of responsibility ethics. The implications of Jonas’ discussion on biotechnology criticism are as follows. First, we must be wary of human means by science and technology. Second, a reflective attitude toward science and technology and ethics is needed.

한스 요나스는 과학 기술 시대의 위기를 극복하기 위한 새로운 윤리 학으로 책임 윤리를 제안한다. 그리고 이런 책임 윤리는 우리 삶의 다 양한 실천적 문제에 응용될 수 있는데 생명 공학이 그 대표적 사례이 다. 요나스에 따르면 기술 발달 과정의 종착점에서 우리를 기다리는 것이 바로 생명 공학의 단계이다. 생명 공학 기술의 과도한 발전으로 인해 인간의 유전자 구조를 변형시킬 수 있다는 생각이나 우리의 후손 을 계획할 수 있다는 생각이 더 이상 환상이 아닌 것이 되어버렸다. 기술 발전의 최종적 단계에 이르러 마침내 인간은 과학 기술 자체의 대상으로 전락하게 된 것이다. 유전자 조작의 문제와 같은 생명 공학 분야 연구에 대한 요나스의 입장은 간결하면서도 단호하다. 오직 불행 의 예방만이 허용되고, 새로운 종류의 행복을 위한 어떤 시도도 허용 되지 말아야 한다. 본 연구에서는 이것을 불행한 결과 예방 우선의 원 칙이라 명명하고, 책임 윤리의 응용으로서 생명 공학의 문제에 적용되는 잠정적 윤리 원칙으로 제안하려 하였다. 이와 같은 요나스의 생명 공학 비판 논의가 시사하는 바는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 과학 기술에 의한 인간의 수단화를 경계해야 한다. 둘째, 과학 기술과 윤리에 대한 성찰 적 태도가 필요하다.
