Modern society has developed dramatically in transportation and communication. So peoples who have different worldviews and lifeviews meet more often. Therefore, we have a greater need for universal morality which is admitted by all. And a proper Buddhist education is necessary for the establishment of such an universal morality. So, ahead of curriculum revisions for 2022, present writer looked at the contents of Buddhism which are contained in Ethics and Thoughts written by Park Chan-gu etc. at 2021, and Classics and Ethics written by Park Byung-gi etc. at 2021, among the high school textbooks, and suggested the direction for improvement. So, first of all, the direction for improvement of Ethics and Thoughts is as follow. Ethics and Thoughts contains the Early Buddhism, Madhyamaka thought and Yogācāra thought, because early Buddhism is the root of Buddhism, and Madhyamaka thought and Yogācāra thought are central to Mahāyāna Buddhism. But the contents of Early Buddhism, Madhyamaka thought and Yogācāra thought need to be corrected and supplemented, because those are somewhat inaccurate. Also this textbook does not mention the Buddha-nature thought at all. But Buddha-nature thought is one of the central ideas of Mahāyāna Buddhism, and most of the thoughts of Korean monks such as Wonhyo(元曉, 617-686) and Jinul(知訥, 1158-1210) are based on the Buddha-nature thought, the Tathāgata-garbha thought. So the Buddha-nature thought needs to be added after the Yogācāra thought. The direction for improvement of Classics and Ethics is as follows. Classics and Ethics contains two literatures of the Susimgyeol(『修心訣』) and the Geumganggyeong(『金剛經』), because the Susimgyeol is the most representative of Jinul's many writings, and the Geumganggyeong is one of the most widely read and representative Mahāyāna literatures in Korea. Meanwhile this textbook does not mention the texts of Early Buddhism at all. But Early Buddhism is the root of all Buddhism and contains a wealth of moral and ethical contents. So the literatures of Early Buddhism need to be added at the beginning of the textbook. Also, there are some inaccuracies in the contents of the Susimgyeol(『修心訣』), so it need to be corrected and supplemented.

현대 사회는 교통과 통신의 비약적인 발전으로 상이한 세계관과 인 생관을 지닌 사회와 집단이 더 자주 만나게 되었으므로, 그들의 갈등 완화와 공존을 위해서는 그들이 함께 수용할 수 있는 보편적인 도덕이 더욱 필요하게 되었으며, 그와 같은 보편적인 도덕의 수립을 위해서 올바른 불교 교육도 더욱 필요하게 되었다. 본 논문은 그런 관점에 따 라 2022년 교육과정 개정을 앞두고, 특히 고등학교 교과서 가운데 박 찬구 등저, 『윤리와 사상』(서울: 씨마스, 2021) 및 박병기 등저, 『고전과 윤리』 (전주: 전라북도교육청, 2021)에 포함되어 있는 불교 관련 내 용을 살펴보고 그 개선 방향을 제시해 보았다. 먼저 『윤리와 사상』의 개선 방향은 다음과 같다. 초기불교는 불교의 뿌리이기 때문에 『윤리와 사상』에 포함되었고, 중관사상과 유식사상은 대승불교의 중심이기 때문에 본 교과서에 포함되었다고 생각된다. 그러나 그 내용을 보면 다소 정확하지 못한 점이 있다고 생각되므로 초 기불교, 중관사상, 유식사상에 대해서는 본고 제II장의 내용처럼 수정 및 보완이 필요하다고 생각된다. 또한 본 교과서는 불성사상을 전혀 언급하지 않지만, 불성사상은 중관사상 및 유식사상과 함께 대승불교 의 중심 사상 가운데 하나이고, 원효의 일심사상, 의천의 교관겸수, 지눌의 정혜쌍수 등은 모두 불성사상(佛性思想), 즉 여래장사상을 바탕으 로 하기 때문에 유식사상의 뒷부분에 추가될 필요가 있다고 생각된다. 『고전과 윤리』의 개선 방향은 다음과 같다. 『고전과 윤리』가 지눌의 􋺷수심결􋺸을 다룬 이유는 그 책이 지눌의 여러 저술들 가운데서도 가장 대표적인 저술이기 때문이며, 『금강경』을 다룬 이유는 그 경전이 한국 에서 가장 널리 읽히는 한국불교에서 가장 중요한 대승 경전 가운데 하나이기 때문일 것이다. 한편 본 교과서는 초기불교 경전을 전혀 다 루지 않는데, 초기불교는 모든 불교의 뿌리이며 그 속에서는 진실에 대한 가르침과 함께 도덕적이고 윤리적인 내용이 풍부하게 포함되어 있으므로 교과서의 앞부분에 본고 제III장의 내용처럼 추가할 필요가 있다. 또한 􋺷수심결􋺸에 대해서는 그 내용이 다소 부족한 점들이 발견 되므로 본문과 같은 형태로 수정 및 보완이 필요하다고 생각된다.
