The purpose of this study was to search academic major selection and career decision making of collegiate golf athletes. We collected data through in-depth interview with 13 college golf athletes who are currently major golf and students who quit athletes after entering a college. The results showed that expectations for a life that had not been played since start golf, and expectations for learn and diversity at university were found to be high. As for the factors affecting career decision, it was found that stress about career as a golf athletes, adjustment to school life, concerns about continuation of athlete's life, and regret about future and success as a golf athletes delayed the career decision period. Lack of experience in dealing with anything other than golf led to a lack of confidence, which led to a lack of interest in the field of interest, and the level of the career decision process was low. Their career decision making process is greatly influenced by their surroundings, such as professors and seniors, and as they get older, they are showing their will to develop their career path. Based on these results, golf departments of colleges should develop curriculums that reflects their wants, social needs, and curriculums that reflect practice fields wants in order to meet the experiences they had when they entered college as golf athletes.

본 연구에서는 대학골프선수들의 전공선택 및 진로결정과정을 분석하였다. 이를 위 해 대학골프선수로서 선수생활 중인 학생과 대학 진학 후 선수활동을 중단한 학생 등 총 13명을 대상으로 심층면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 그 결과 골프를 시작한 이후 해보지 못한 생활에 대한 기대감, 대학에서의 학습과 다양성에 대한 기대가 큰 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 진로결정 영향요인들은 골프선수로서 진로에 대한 스트레스, 학교생 활 적응, 선수생활 지속에 대한 고민, 골프선수로서 미래와 성공에 대한 미련 등이 진로 결정 시기를 늦추는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 골프 외 다른 것을 접한 경험이 부족한 탓 에 자신감이 결여되고 이는 관심분야 부재로 이어진 탓에 진로결정과정 수준이 낮게 나타났다. 넷째, 이들의 진로결정과정은 전공교수 및 선배 등 주변의 영향을 크게 받으 며, 학년이 올라갈수록 진로개발을 위해 노력하는 의지를 보이고 있었다. 본 연구결과 를 토대로 대학 골프관련학과들은 이들이 골프선수로서 대학에 입학할 때 가졌던 기대 를 충족시켜주기 위해 학생들의 요구와 사회적 수요, 학문과 실제를 반영한 교과·비교 과 프로그램 등을 반영한 교육과정 개발이 요구되어진다. 또한 학교생활 적응을 위한 환경조성, 골프관련 세부영역에 대한 학문과 실제를 반영한 산학협력체계 구축 등이 이루어질 필요가 있다.
