This study investigates teachers' childcare experience with children from multicultural families to better understand their perspective and multiculturalism and to use this knowledge to improve multicultural childcare development and environment. A total of 13 childcare teachers from “A” City in “G” childcare center for working parents, where 90% of the children come from a multicultural family, suggested improvements to multicultural childcare environment. The results of the interviews are as follows. First, as for the ‘Perception and Attitude toward Multicultural Childcare’, when both parents and teachers are satisfied with multicultural childcare the teachers felt gratified and they reported that multicultural programs were not actively promoted in the daily programs. Second, continuous dialogue between teachers and parents, active parental involvement and education, and full government support for parental education and psychological social support are needed. Third, as for the ‘Language Development of Children and Parents of Multicultural Families’, teachers reported experiencing numerous difficulties in maintaining communication with the primary and secondary caretakers of the children. Fourth, as for the ‘Multicultural Childcare Environment Improvement and Support’, the educational program for multiculturalism and cultural diversity need to be much more specific and practical and teachers with expertise in multicultural social education should be preferentially recruited. Fifth, as for the ‘Understanding Multicultural Children with Disability’, teachers and administrators reported facing numerous difficulties. Teachers need to be provided with practical and special training and workshop to provide special education and care to multicultural children with disability. Implications of the results indicate the need for governments to support and improve multicultural childcare centers, select multicultural childcare support center to develop practical applications and programs and publicize these programs, and to allow teachers time and to share their experiences with their colleagues.

본 연구는 보육교사들의 다문화가정자녀 보육경험을 토대로 다문화에 대한 이해를 높이고 다문화보육환경개선을 위한 방안과 틀을 모색함으로써 다문화가정 영유아의 성장발달에 기여할 수 있는 보육환경을 제공하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이 연구를 위한 방 법으로 다문화가정 자녀가 보육정원의 90%이상인 A시의 G직장어린이집교사 13명을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하고 이를 토대로 다문화보육에 필요한 요건들과 다문화보 육환경을 개선하기 위한 측면에서 분석하였다. 연구 결과를 요약해보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, ‘다문화보육에 대한 인식과 태도’는 부모와 교사가 만족하는 다문화보육이 이루 어졌을 때 교사로서 보람을 느끼지만 다문화에 관련된 프로그램을 운영하는 것은 보육 교사들의 일과에서 소극적으로 진행되고 있었다. 둘째, 부모와 보육교사와의 지속적인 의사소통이 중요하고, 부모역할과 부모교육이 선행되어야 하며, 정부차원에서 부모교 육과 심리적 안정에 대한 지원이 함께 이루어져야 한다는 것을 강조하였다. 셋째, ‘다문 화가정 자녀와 학부모의 언어발달’에서는 주 양육자와 보조양육자와의 의사소통이 원 활하지 않아 보육교사들의 전달사항이 제대로 전달되지 못해 다문화보육의 어려움으 로 나타나고 있었다. 넷째, ‘다문화 보육환경 개선을 위한 지원’에서는 다문화이해와 문 화다양성에 대한 교육과정이 보다 더 구체적이고 실효성 있게 구성되어져야 하고, 다 문화사회전문가와 같은 전문적 지식을 갖춘 교사의 지원이 우선적으로 선행되어야 하 는 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, ‘다문화 장애아동에 대한 이해’에서는 교사연수나 교사교 육을 통해 다문화전문교육이나 장애아동 특수교육 등 현장에서 실효성 있게 다뤄질 수 있는 전문교육이 확대되어야 한다는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 분석 결과를 토대로 제언을 하면 다문화보육환경을 개선하기 위해 정부기관의 지원을 확대하고 우수보육 시설을 선별하여 시설개방과 프로그램공유와 같은 구체적인 방안이 마련되어야 하며, 보육현장에서의 어려움을 함께 나눌 수 있는 동료 교사들 간의 교류의 시간과 공간이 마련되어 서로의 경험을 공유하고 마음을 나눌 수 있게 되길 제언하였다.
