The purpose of this study is to examine the poetic world of Jeon Bong-geon, one of postwar poets in 1950s, who focused on embodying the war experience, in the aspects of the war experience and overcoming the death. Specifically, it attempts to consider the historicity of death, death consciousness, a poetic self’s trauma about the war experience and the aspect of overcoming death, around ｢Supporting the Darkness｣ which may be the representative work, among his prose and lose poems. It is, therefore, expected to highlight the flow and the section of death-related geistesgeschichten had by poet Jeon Bong-geon. In particular, his death variation using maternity and femaleness regarding the Korean War is not a mere logic of ideology, but represents an important poetic value of overcoming the death and the Eros-based thought, which may be possessed by him as a poet. The poetic experience of the war and death, appearing in Jeon Bong-geon’s poems has provided an important foundation on which the poetic differentiation and distinction from other postwar poets who were active in the same time.

본 논문은 1950년대 전후시인의 한 사람으로서 전쟁 체험의 형상화에 주력했던 전봉건의 시세계를 전쟁 체험과 죽음의 극복 양상을 통해 살펴보려는 목적을 지닌다. 구체적으로는 그의 산문시 혹은 장시 중 대표작이라 할 수 있는 ｢암흑을 지탱하는｣이라는 작품을 중심으로, 죽음의 역사성과 죽음의식, 그리고 전쟁 체험에 관한 시적 자아의 트라우마와 죽음의 극복 양상에 대해 고찰해보고자 한다. 이를 통해 전봉건 시인이 가졌던 죽음과 관련한 정신사적 흐름과 그 단면을 집중적으로 조망해 볼 수 있으리라 기대한다. 특히 6·25전쟁 체험과 관련하여 그의 모 성성과 여성성을 활용한 죽음의 변주는 단순한 이념의 논리가 아닌 시인으로서 가질 수 있는 에로스적 사유와 죽 음을 극복하는 중요한 시적 가치를 대변한다. 이를 통해 전봉건의 시에 나타난 전쟁과 죽음의 시적 체험은 같은 시기 활동하였던 전후시인들과의 시적 차별점과 변별점을 형성하는 중요한 토대로 작용하게 된다.
