This study examines the structure of competition and conflicts of terrestrial broadcasters over the past 30 years over sports broadcasting rights through exclusive contracts and exclusive broadcasting cases. Since the TV launch of SBS in 1991, there have been a total of 5 cases in which a specific terrestrial broadcaster has exclusive contract and exclusive relay broadcasting for sports content, which is a national concern. In addition, in each case, the exclusive contract for sports broadcasting rights and exclusive broadcasting are made through complex background and decision-making rather than simply a short-sighted profit structure between broadcasters, and the impact of the decision has a great impact on the overall domestic broadcasting rights market. This could be confirmed through this study. Although there have been several media studies related to sports broadcasting rights, this study is meaningful in that it focuses only on superficial conflicts, and studies on the background and overall situation and decision-making are relatively lacking.In particular, it was confirmed that the characteristics of the single relay broadcasting case of the early 1990s and the single relay broadcasting case of the early 2000s were different, and it was analyzed that they had different influences on the rise of broadcasting rights. In addition, it was also confirmed that after 2010, the number of exclusive relay broadcasting by terrestrial broadcasters significantly decreased due to the change in the media environment, and the conflict pattern changed.

본 연구는 스포츠방송권을 둘러싼 지난 30년간의 지상파 방송사들의 경쟁과 갈등 구조를 독점 계약 및 단독 중계 의 사례를 통해 살펴보았다. 1991년 SBS의 TV개국 이후, 국민적 관심사인 스포츠콘텐츠를 특정 지상파 방송사가 독점 계약 및 단독 중계방송을 한 사례는 총 5번 있었다. 그리고 각각의 사례는 스포츠방송권 독점 계약 및 단독 중계는 단순히 방송사들 간의 근시안적인 이익 구조가 아닌 복잡한 배경 및 의사결정을 통해 이루어지고, 그 결정에 따른 파장이 국내 방송권 시장 전반에 큰 영향을 미친다는 점을 본 연구를 통해 확인 할 수 있었다. 그 동안 스포츠방송권과 관련해, 여러 미디어 연구가 있어 왔지만, 표면적인 갈등에만 초점을 맞추어 배경 및 전반적인 상황 및 의사결정에 대한 연구는 상대적으 로 부족했다는 점에서 본 연구는 의의가 있다 할 수 있겠다. 특히, 초기의 1990년대 후반의 단독 중계방송 사례와 2000년 대 초반의 단독 중계방송 사례가 그 성격이 다름을 확인할 수 있었으며, 방송권료 상승에도 각기 다른 영향을 끼쳤다고, 분석되었다. 아울러, 2010년 이후에는 미디어 환경의 변화로 인해 지상파 방송사들의 독점 중계방송의 사례가 현저히 줄어들고, 갈등 양상이 달라졌다는 점 또한 확인 할 수 있었다.
