Disinfectant which possesses hypochlorous acid (HOCl) as a predominant species has been widely used due to its strong sterilizing power, easy accessibility, low toxicity and various biological effects. The hydrogen mineral disinfectant (HMD) was developed through mixing method in a specific ratio based on hypochlorite and mineral supplements, which reveals high oxidizing power and abundant hydrogen. In this study we investigated drinking effects of HMD on Helicobacter pylori infection in C57BL/6 mice for 10 wk. The mice were divided into 3 groups: purified water (PW)-drinking group without infection, PW-drinking group after H. pylori infection and HMD-drinking group after H. pylori infection. Water was supplied with bottle for mouse and exchanged once a day. H. pylori infection was confirmed by microscopic observation through Giemsa staining. In the result, ROS level, GPx activity and calcium showed significant difference between HMD and PW group. the WBC differential counting, and cytokine analysis such as granulocyte/macrophage colony-stimulating factor, tumor necrosis factor-α, IL-1β, IL-6 also showed suppressive effect. In conclusion, our results suggest that drinking HMD which is the mixed type of chlorine disinfectant has positive effects on the H. pylori-infected mice through redox regulation and immune response.
