By considering the fact that the children from DSMF (double-settlement multicultural families) are under the influence of two different mainstream societies as well as two native speaker parents from each country, this study explored what kind of language learning environments can be provided to them. This study was aimed at sharing insights as to what kind of language barriers the DSMF children may face in the course of learning both languages and finding possible ways to help them overcome these difficulties. In order to suggest several hypothetical scenarios, this study applied some general theories about language development to the documented case of a DSMF child highlighted in Lee’s 2020 study, as a part of employing a theoretical triangulation strategy. The result of the study made it clear that the parents’ life-changing decisions about 1) which parent will be the main-caregiver, 2) how long the child will be staying in each country, and 3) how frequently and in which country the family will reunite may exert an influence upon the quantity and the quality of each language input. Accordingly, a few theoretical propositions were put forward in order to better help DSMF children learn both languages.

이중국가정착 다문화가정 아동은 두 국가의 주류문화집단에 각각 소속된 부(⽗)와 모(母)의양육을 받는다. 그러나 부모가 생업을 위해 서로 다른 나라에 분리되어 거주한다는 점과 주 양육을 담당하는 부모의 국가 간 이동에 따라 아동의 체류 국가까지 유동적일 수 있다는 점에서 이중국가정착 다문화가정 아동은 독특한 언어습득 환경에 놓이게 된다. 본 연구에서는 아동의 이중언어 발달에서 주류문화집단 및 주류집단 부모의 영향력을 다룬 문헌을 선정하였고 이를 이중국가정착 다문화가정의 실제 사례를 다룬 질적 연구 자료에 대입하는 이론 삼각기법을 실시하여 아동의 언어습득 환경을 문서 분석하였다. 연구결과, 주 양육을 담당한 부모의 이중언어능력, 아동의 국가별 체류의 양식 및 기간, 가족전체의 재결합 빈도와 재결합이 이루어지는 국가등이 아동의 언어습득 환경을 구성하는 중요한 요소가 될 수 있음이 드러났다. 이중언어 습득을위해 아동의 주류집단 및 주류집단 부모와의 접촉은 필수적이지만 자녀를 동반한 부모의 잦은국가 간 이동 또는 아동의 사회․정서적 발달을 고려하지 않은 두 언어․문화의 무분별한 부과에대해서도 주의를 기울여야 할 것이다.
