The purpose of this study was to verify whether there is a mediating effect of trust in the police in the relationship between citizens' voluntary contact with the police and the willingness to report. The data were collected through non-probability sampling and surveys targeting adults of Korean nationality residing in Seoul as of October 2020. For the analysis, SPSS 25.0 was used, the fit of the data and the correlation between variables were checked, and based on this, multiple regression analysis was developed. Finally, the Sobel test was conducted to verify the statistical significance of the mediating effect. As a result of the analysis, the influence of voluntary contact on the intention to report was indirectly effective, allowing the complete mediation effect of police trust to be recognized. Voluntary contact improves the willingness to report by enhancing police confidence. Considering that research results may vary depending on the type of police contact, this study attempted to conduct an in-depth analysis limited to voluntary contact. It is meaningful that the intention to report such as 'I will report', that is, the state of internal consent, was used as a variable to induce active participation in security activities.

이 연구의 목적은 시민들의 경찰에 대한 자발적 접촉과 신고의사 간의 관계에서 경찰에 대한 신 뢰의 매개효과가 있는지를 검증하고자 하였다. 자료의 수집은 2020년 10월 기준 서울에 거주 중인 대한민국 국적의 성인을 대상으로 비확률표집 및 설문조사를 통해 이루어졌으며, 분석은 SPSS 25.0을 활용하였다. 기초적 분석을 통하여 자료의 적합도와 변수 간의 상관성을 확인하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 다중회귀분석을 전개하였다. 마지막으로 매개효과의 통계적 유의성을 검증하고자 Sobel 테스트를 진행하였다. 분석결과 신고의사에 대한 자발적 접촉의 영향력이 간접적으로 유효하여 경찰신뢰의 완전매개효 과를 인정할 수 있다. 자발적 접촉은 경찰신뢰를 제고함으로써 신고의사를 개선한 것이다. 이러한 결과를 보인 것은 비자발적 접촉과 달리 자발적 접촉은 개인이 문제해결을 요청하는 치안수요자로 등장함으로써 경찰을 통해 문제를 해결하고 그 결과 신뢰에 영향을 미쳤을 가능성이 높기 때문으로 사료된다. 이 연구는 경찰접촉 유형에 따라 연구결과가 달라질 수 있음을 고려하여 자발적 접촉에 한정하여 심도있는 분석을 하고자 하였으며, 신고는 이미 범죄사실 또는 무질서 상태를 보고하는 행위가 완료 된 상태를 의미한다는 점에서 ‘신고를 할 것이다’와 같은 신고의사 즉, 내적동의 상태를 변수로 활용 함으로써 치안활동에 대한 적극적인 참여를 유도를 도모하였다는 점에 의의가 있다.
