The difficulty of the descriptions of the parts of eastern thoughts in the ‘Ethics and Thoughts’ textbooks has consistently been raised among researchers in Eastern philosophy. This paper points out the problems and explores the methods of the description of Toegye’s thought in Korean ethics from a macro and micro perspective, and presents its own solutions. First of all, from a macro perspective, the difficulty in the description of Toegye's thought, especially the theory of Li-qi(理氣論) and Four-Seven Debate(四端七情論), is raised as the biggest problem. As an alternative method to this problem, it is suggested to eliminate or minimize the descriptions of the theory of Li-qi and Four-Seven Debate. Given that the 'Ethics and Thoughts' textbook is intended to foster a sense of ethics among students, such an approach would not have a significant impact on the overall understanding of the thought of Toegye ethics. In particular, regarding the Four-Seven Debate(四端七情論), it can be described without damaging the original meaning even if we exclude the terms "Libalgisu(理發氣隨)" and "Giballiseung(氣發理乘)". From a micro point of view, the five various "Ethics and Thoughts" textbooks were scrutinized and analyzed. I extracted and reviewed the parts that are need to be modified related to Li-qi theory·Four-seven debate·Theory of self-cultivation. First, regarding Li-qi theory, it was argued that at least the proposition of 'Li is precious and qi is lowly(理貴氣賤)' should not be described as a representative term of Toegye's Li-qi theory. Second, regarding Four-seven debate, the interpretation aspects of each textbook on 'Four sprouts is what qi follows when li express themselves(四端理發而氣隨之).' and 'Seven feelings is li that is riding on while qi is moving(七情氣發而理乘之).' were analyzed, and an alternative translation method was proposed that can be easily understood by contemporaries while interpreting it as closely as possible to its original meaning. Third, after analyzing each textbook's description of Toegye's "Gyeong(敬)", it was found that the uniformity of the contents was very low, and thus an alternative was suggested.

『윤리와 사상』 교과서 중 한국사상 부분 서술의 난해함에 대해서는 동양철학계의 몇몇 연구자들을 중심으로 지속적으로 그 문제가 제기되어 왔다. 본 논문은 그 연장선에서 퇴계 윤리사상 부분의 서술에 대해 거시적・미시적 관점에서 그 문제점을 짚어보고 몇 가지 해결방안을 제시해 보았다. 먼저 거시적 관점에서는 퇴계사상 서술 전반, 특히 이기론과 사단칠정론의 난해함이 가장 큰 문제로 제기되었다. 이에 대한 해결 방안으로 본고에서는 이기론과 사단칠정론의 서술을 제외하거나 최소화할 것을 주장하였다. 『윤리와 사상』 이 학생들의 윤리의식 함양을 목적으로 하는 교과서임을 감안할 때, 이와 같은 방식이 퇴계윤리사상 전반의 이해에는 큰 영향을 주지는 않을 것으로 판단하였다. 특히 사단칠정론과 관련해서는 굳이 이발기수(理發氣隨)・기발이승(氣發理乘)이라는 한문 용어를 사용하지 않고도 원의의 훼손 없이 서술이 가능하다는 점을제시하였다. 미시적 관점에서는 『윤리와 사상』 5종 교과서를 분석하고, 이기론・사단칠정론・수양론과 관련하여 수정이 필요한 부분을 발췌해 고찰해 보았다. 첫째 이기론과 관련해서는, 최소한 ‘이귀기천(理貴氣賤)’의 명제는 퇴계의 이기론을 대표하는 용어로 서술되어서는 안 된다는 사실을 논증하였다. 둘째, 사단칠정론과 관련해서는, 퇴계 ‘사단이발이기수지(四端理發而氣隨之)’, ‘칠정기발이이승지(七情氣發而理乘之)’에 대한 각 교과서의 해석 양상을 분석하여, 이를 최대한 원의와 가깝게 해석하면서도 현대인이 쉽게 이해할 수 있는 번역 방안을 제시하였다. 셋째, 퇴계의 ‘경(敬)’에 대한 각 교과서의 서술방식을 분석하여, 내용의 통일성 부족과 서술의 난해함을 발견하고 이에 대한 해결방안을 제시하였다.
