This study aim to identify role of cyber media among the assimilation factors of domestic extremism based on the characteristics and the environment of lone-wolf extremist terrorism around the world. Using the literature research method, extremist assimilation factors were presented in stages based on analyzing far-right terrorist attacks over the past decade and prior research. As a result, This study classifies the extremism assimilation stage as cognitive error, failure to socialize, encounter extremism, encounter external assistants, and trigger events. To identify the impact of emerging cyber media on extremist assimilation, this study analyzed the lone-wolf terrorist attacks from Timothy McVeigh's 1995 bombing to attack on the synagogue in Halle, Germany. They have shown racism, nationalism, exclusivity, and anti-feminism, and the closer to recent terrorism attack, the more extremists has encountered extremism through cyber media. Based on result, this study identified cyber media related to extremism in Korea. there are some online communities such as ‘ilbe’ similar as U.S 8chan, ‘womad’ the radical feminism group and besides far-left, radical communities. Platforms such as YouTube and Twitter used around the world, can also spread extremism or become connections between extremists. This study proposes three ways to prevent lone-wolf extremism terrorism and to reduce the impact of each terrorist attacks. First of all, monitoring extremist posts on cyber media. Second, surveillance both extremes by intelligence and law enforcement agencies. and Last, expanding public-government partnership for socialization and online self-examination to reduce extremism influence.

이 연구는 전 세계적으로 증가하는 자생적 극단주의 테러의 특징과 극단화 환경을 토대로 국내 극단주의 동화요인 중 사이버 매체의 역할을 파악하는 것이 목적이다. 문헌연구법을 활용하여 지난 10년간 발생한 주요 해외 극우주의 테러 사례를 분석하였으며, 선행연구를 토대로 극단주의 동화요 인을 단계별로 구분하여 제시하였다. 그 결과 극단주의 동화단계를 인지적 오류, 사회화의 실패, 극 단주의 조우, 외부 조력자의 만남, 촉발사건의 발생으로 분류하였다. 그중 새롭게 대두된 사이버 매체가 극단주의 동화에 미친 영향을 확인하기 위하여 1995년 발생한 티모시 맥베이의 폭탄테러부터 2019년 발생한 독일 Halle 지역의 유대교당 테러까지 극우테러 사건 을 분석하였다. 이들은 인종주의, 민족주의, 배타적 성향, 반(反)여성적인 면모를 보여왔으며 최근 테 러에 가까울수록 인터넷 커뮤니티, SNS를 통해 극단주의를 접하고 각성한 경향을 보였다. 이를 바탕으로 국내 극단주의 동화요인 중 사이버상 매체를 파악한 결과, 미국 8chan과 유사한 일간베스트 저장소나 국내에서 독특한 형태로 발전한 레디컬 페미니즘 커뮤니티 워마드가 존재하였 으며 그 외 극좌, 급진적 성향의 커뮤니티들이 존재하였다. 전 세계적으로 활용되는 Youtube나 Twitter와 같은 플랫폼도 극단주의를 전파하거나 극단주의자 간의 연결망이 될 수 있다. 결론적으로 자생적 극단주의 테러를 방지하고 각 테러 사건 간의 영향을 감소시키기 위해 첫째, 극단적 성향 게시물에 대한 모니터링 강화, 둘째, 정보수사기관의 양극단에 대한 동시적 감시, 셋째, 극단주의 양성 방지를 위한 민관협력체계 확대와 인터넷 자율심의제 등 분과별 협력의 필요성을 제시하였다.
