In this study, I examine how sense of local belonging moderates the effect of confidence in the police on neighborhood perceived safety as well as individual effects of each independent variable. Using the data of the 2019 Social Integration Survey, a nationwide sample of 8,000 people was analyzed. The results show that both the confidence in the police and sense of local belonging. showed significant positive effects on the neighborhood perceived safety, but the effect size and explanatory power of the confidence in the police was much higher than the sense of local belonging. Also, the effect of the confidence in the police on perceived neighborhood safety has been weakened as the sense of local belonging increased. These results suggest that focusing more on local attachment factors such as sense of local belonging would be efficient to increase perceive safety. Also, in terms of increasing perceived safety, police effort to enhance confidence would be more effective in areas with low sense of local belonging.

본 연구는 경찰에 대한 신뢰와 지역 소속감이 지역 안전성 인식에 어떻게 달리 영향을 미치는지 살펴보고, 경찰에 대한 신뢰가 지역 안전성 인식에 미치는 영향을 지역 소속감이 어떠한 방향으로 조절하는지 확인하여 그 의미를 고찰하였다. 2019년 사회통합실태조사 자료상 8,000명의 전국단위 표본을 분석한 바, 경찰에 대한 신뢰와 지역 소속감 모두 지역 안전성 인식에 유의한 정의 효과를 나타내었으나, 지역소속감의 효과값과 설명력이 경찰에 대한 신뢰보다 훨씬 큰 것으로 나타났다. 또 한, 경찰에 대한 신뢰가 지역 안전성 인식에 미치는 정의 효과는 지역소속감이 커질수록 감소하였 다. 이러한 결과는 지역 안전성 인식을 높이기 위해 지역소속감과 같은 지역 애착요인에 더 집중할 필요가 있으며, 경찰신뢰도를 제고하여 지역 안전성 인식을 높이기 위한 노력은 지역 소속감이 낮은 지역에 집중되는 것이 보다 효과적일 것이라는 사실을 말해준다.
