There are some similarities between the dance images in Yeats’s and Iryeon’s work. Yeats and Iryeon recorded them in their folktales, just as they were. This was the outcome of their efforts to revive identity through national dances. The dance images appearing in their works communicate the aspiration that people’s hopes would be fulfilled. They also wish that their concerns would be removed by wearing masks and performing holy and peaceful dances. Both writers selected and recorded such dances for national and individual welfare. Using folktales, legends, and dances as materials, they made a substantial contribution to people’s expressing their aspiration for living in happiness and prosperity; in their works appear holy images of Irish and Korean dances, such as ‘mystic songs’ and ‘artistic dances.’

예이츠와 일연의 춤 이미지는 유사한 점이 있다. 이 글은 아일랜드의 시인 예이츠의 시에 재현된 춤과 일연의 『삼국유사』에 서술된 춤의 이미지를 비교해 보고자 한다. 예이츠는 시에, 일연은 설화에 춤을 노래했다. 이는 춤으로 민족의 고결 한 전통을 부활시키려는 노력이다. 그 작품들에서 춤의 이미지는 가면을 착용하여 성 스러운 고요함의 춤을 추면서 사람들에게 희망을 주고 근심을 물리치려는 염원뿐만 아니라 인간과 자연, 육체와 정신이 하나 되는 중개자의 역할을 한다. 예이츠와 일연 두 작가는 시와 설화를 춤의 제재로 사용하여 ‘존재의 통합’이나, ‘삶의 통합’으로 사 람들이 행복을 갈망하는 성스러운 이미지를 재현하였다.
