Romance scam seems not only an influential crime to western countries but also South Korea for a decade. However, the relevant studies seem to be conducted only by western countries because of the different criminal justice system, so it is not likely to be known for the public in South Korea a lot. This research project examines the perception level of romance scam in South Korean and their experience to meet anonymous people online to expect the vulnerability of being deceived. Using secondary data relating to areas covering the subject of a romance scam, a basic knowledge was used to support the primary data collection that operated through a hand- by-hand questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed to gather data on the perceptions of respondents regarding a romance scam and how much they think it is a problem in the society, and what factors affect a lot. It is argued that there seems to be a vulnerability of romance scam in South Korea and therefore it is essential to find an appropriate means of preventing potential victims as well as to suggest a practical way not to be victimised. It is believed that prior knowledge and reduction of specific psychological defection has the potential to solve the issue.

로맨스 사기는 서구 국가뿐만 아니라 한국에서도 영향을 미치는 범죄라고 할 수 있다. 그러나 이와 관련된 연구는 주로 서구 국가에서만 이뤄지는 것으로 보이고, 아직 국내에서는 대중에게 많이 알려지지 않고 있다. 이 연구에서는 국내 로맨스 사기에 대한 인식 수준과 온라인에서 익명의 사람들을 만나본 경험을 조사해 로맨스 사기에 대한 취약성을 검토해 보고자 하였다. 연구는 로맨스 사기의 대상과 관련된 2차 데이터와 직접적 설문조사를 통해 수행되었다. 설문지는 로맨스 사기에 대한 응답자들의 인식과 그것이 사회에서 얼마나 문제가 된다고 생각하는지, 그리고 어떤 요소들이 로맨스 사기에 큰 영향을 미치는지에 대해 알아보기 위한 문항들로 구성되었다. 연구 결과, 한국에서는 로맨스 사기의 취약성이 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러므로 잠재적인 피해자를 예방할 수 있는 적절한 수단을 찾는 것이 필수적이라고 할 수 있는데, 이 연구에서는 사전지식과 특정한 심리적 결함 감소가 문제를 해결할 수 있는 가능성을 가지고 있다는 정책적 함의를 제시하였다.
