This study addresses the aspect of Zainichi Korean literature facing the serious ‘anti-Korean’ phenomenon multilaterally by renewing the interpretation of Jini’s Puzzle and closely examining The Night Before. The ‘anti-Korean’ phenomenon of Japanese society began around the 2000s and has been a motive for Zainichi Korean literature to discuss ‘serious’ matters, such as ‘ethnicity,’ ‘ideology,’ and ‘nationality,’ as literary themes. Whereas young writers in the 1990s like Yu Miri and Kaneshiro Kazuki avoided these themes or handled them with a very ‘soft’ feeling, new Zainichi-Korean writers who appeared after 2010 illustrate the world as a space full of ‘seriousness.’ Among them, The Night Before by Hwang Yeong-chi and Jini’s Puzzle by Che Sil focus on the Zainichi Korean protagonists who struggle to find solutions to the ‘anti-Korean’ phenomenon. These works draw attention by embodying the reality of ‘serious’ Zainichi Korean society in the front line. The former reveals diverse desire structures of Japanese society entwined with the ‘anti-Korean’ phenomenon through the protagonist, who directly confronts hate demonstrations. The latter sheds light on the irrational reality faced by Zainichi Korean society through scars of the protagonist who experiences exclusion and discrimination at school. The differences in the view of the ‘anti-Korean’ phenomenon between the two works show that Zainichi Korean society is bearing a very complex issue. However, Zainichi Koreans have been seeking literary solutions to ‘unsolvable’ problems surrounding their reality ever since the 1950s, when Japan was regarded as a place for settlement. The important fact is that Zainichi Korean literature still pays attention to the ‘unknown’ aspect of Zainichi Korean society and its members, which will be continued in the future.

이 연구는 『지니의 퍼즐』에 대한 해석을 갱신하고, 『전야』를 구체적으로 살펴봄으로써, ‘혐한’ 현상이라는 ‘심각함’에 마주친 재일문학의 현재를 다각적으로 짚어보고자 한 것이다. 2000년대를 전후하여 시작된 일본 사회의 ‘혐한’ 현상은 재일문학으로 하여금 다시 ‘민족’, ‘이념’, ‘국적’과 같은 ‘심각한’ 소재들을 주요한 문학적 주제로 삼게 하는 동인으로 작용하고 있다. 1990년대를 경유하면서, 유미리와 가네시로 가즈키와 같은 신세대 작가들의 작품이 이들 주제를 회피하거나, 혹은 매우 ‘가벼운’ 감촉으로 전복시킴으로써 재일문학의 변화 흐름을 가시화시켰다면, 2010년을 지나면서 등장한 신진 재일작가들에게 세계는 지금 ‘심각함’으로 가득 찬 공간으로 다가오고 있다. 그중에서도 ‘혐한’ 현상을 정면에서 응시하면서 그에 대해 해답을 찾기 위해 분투하는 재일조선인 주인공에 초점을 맞추고 있는 황영치의 『전야』와 최실의 『지니의 퍼즐』은 지금 ‘심각함’과 마주하고 있는 재일사회의 현실을 가장 앞줄에서 문학적으로 형상화한 작품이라는 점에서 눈길을 끈다. 전자가 헤이트 시위에 직접 부딪혀가는 주인공을 통해 ‘혐한’ 현상에 얽힌 일본사회의 다양한 욕망 구조를 폭로하고 있다면, 후자는 학교라는 공간에서 배제와 차별을 경험한 주인공의 상흔을 통해 재일사회가 대면하고 있는 부조리한 현실을 입체적으로 조명한다. 이처럼 일본 사회의 ‘혐한’ 현상을 바라보는 두 작품의 질감 차이는, 그 자체로 현재 재일사회가 떠안고 있는 문제가 매우 복잡다단함을 말해준다. 하지만 돌이켜보면 일본을 정주의 대상으로 바라보기 시작한 1950년대 무렵부터 이미 재일조선인들은 자신들의 현실을 둘러싼 ‘해결 불가능’해 보이는 문제들에 대해, 다양한 형태로 문학적 해답을 모색해왔다. 중요한 점은 재일문학이 여전히 재일사회와 그 구성원을 둘러싼 ‘알 수 없음’을 주목하고 있고, 이 본질적인 주제와의 대면을 향후에도 이어갈 것이라는 사실일 것이다.
