The purpose of this study was to analyze the 16th International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) physics theory problems and students' problem solving. The item analysis focused on the main concepts required in the problem and compared with the Korean curriculum. The problem solving of students was analyzed focusing on the difficulties of students appearing in solving each problem. The results were as follows. First, the 16th IJSO physics theory problems include the concepts of the Korea's physics I and II curriculum. Second, in the case of problem situations that are not frequently encountered, students use arbitrary interpretations to ignore the main effects or modify the problem situations. Third, some students lacked the ability to read graphs. Fourth, some students did not know the SI unit prefix or made small computational mistakes.

본 연구의 목적은 제16회 국제중등과학올림피아드(IJSO) 물리 이론 문제 및 학생들의 풀이과정을 분석하는 것이다. 문항 분석은 문제에서 요구하는 주요 개념을 중심으로 이루어졌으며, 우리나라의 교육과정과 비교하였다. 학생들의 문제 풀이 과정은 각 문항별 풀이과정에서 나타나는 학생들의 어려움을 중심으로 분석하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같았다. 첫째, IJSO 물리 이론 문제는 우리나라의 물리Ⅰ, Ⅱ 교육과정에 포함된 개념을 포함한다. 둘째, 자주 접하는 문제 상황이 아닌 경우, 학생들은 자의적 해석을 통해 주요한 효과를 무시하거나, 문제 상황을 변형하여 접근 한다. 셋째, 그래프를 읽는 능력이 부족하였다. 넷째, SI 단위 접두어를 잘 못 알고 있거나, 작은 계산 실수들이 발견 되었다.
