Thomas Malory’s Le Morte Darthur is the most famous version of the story of the famous British king whose establishment of the Round Table birthed chivalric values. Among these values, the notion of fighting is the most significant and is the main focus of this paper. A knight earned his honor through the act of fighting and shaped a new identity for himself, which allowed him to surpass his own heritage and become something greater. Fighting would later inspire people to achieve what they did not originally have through persistent struggle. Although idealistic and from a past era, chivalric values had a profound influence on the people of the Middle Ages. This influence extended beyond the 15th century, making the study of the values presented in the romance a good cornerstone for understanding the ideals and thoughts of those from the Middle Ages and a relevant topic for modern audiences.
