Oiled paper crafts can be categorized according to their functions and uses, as they were utilized for various specific purposes based on their functional characteristics. Various oils such as perilla oil, sesame oil, and beefsteak plant seed oil were used in oiled paper crafts, which went by different names according to the era and region. Oil expression methods included direct expression from the raw ingredients, frying, and steaming, and continued to be used until the late Joseon era. Oils used in oiled paper crafts were reprocessed, and the addition of other ingredients to the oil acted to improve the durability of the product. First, oil without additives was applied on the paper craft product, and then oil that had been boiled together with additives was soaked into the paper or painted over the paper several times to create the final product. This study examines the production process and methods of oils used in oiled paper crafts, in order to provide basic data for the preservation of oiled paper craft products. The data from this study, combined with further research on oiled paper crafts, should act as a starting point for scientific inquiry into preservation methods for oiled paper crafts.

유지공예품은 유형에 따라 기능적 특성 및 용도적 특성으로 분류할 수 있으며 기 본적으로 기능적 특성을 바탕으로 용도를 세분화하여 활용했다. 유지공예품에 사 용되는 유류의 종류는 들기름, 참기름, 차조기씨기름 등으로 명칭은 시대와 지역에 따라 다양한 이름으로 불렸다. 기름의 착유법은 원료를 착유하거나 볶거나 쪄서 기 름을 취하는 과정을 거치며 조선 후기까지 이러한 착유법들이 계승되었다. 유지공 예품에 사용되는 유류는 재가공한 후 사용했으며 기름을 비롯한 다른 첨가물들의 사용은 유지공예품을 더욱 견고하게 하는 역할을 했다. 제작된 지공예품에 먼저 첨 가물을 넣지 않은 기름을 사용하고, 다음으로 첨가물을 넣고 끓인 기름을 여러 번 먹 이거나 칠하는 작업을 반복하여 완성했다. 본 연구에서는 유지공예품 보존을 위한 기초자료를 마련하고자 유지공예품에 쓰 인 유류의 제작과정과 방법을 살펴보았다. 이후로 유지공예품에 관한 지속적 연구 와 앞서 고찰한 내용을 토대로 유지공예품의 보존 방안에 관한 과학적 연구가 시작 되길 기대한다.
