Humankind has achieved quantitative and qualitative changes of their life through three industrial revolutions. At present, Humankind enter into the age of the 4th industrial revolution. Since the industrial revolution, science and technology had been at the center of social changes. Today, people live in the era of science and technology when science and technology greatly influences people’s lives. Therefore, as citizens in the era of science and technology, it is necessary to pay attention to science and technology and relevant policies. It is required to actively take part in science, technology and relevant policies that largely influence citizens’ lives in order to achieve ‘democratization of science and technology’. In terms of national curriculum, it is necessary to take heed of the citizenship education in the society of science and technology in order to actively get involved in social changes that will be made by the 4th industrial revolution. actively. In this aspect, it is required to understand science and technology, systematically plan and perform the education of citizens’ rights and responsibilities in the society of science and technology.

인류는 3차례의 산업혁명을 거치며 삶의 양적, 질적 변화를 이루어왔고, 현재 제4차 산업혁명 시대로 진입하고 있다. 산업혁명 이후 사회변화의 중심에 과학기술이 자리를 잡았고, 오늘날 우리는 과학기술이 우리의 삶에 지대한 영향을 미치는 과학기술시대를 살아가고 있다. 따라서 과학기술시대를 살아가는 시민으로서 우리는 과학기술과 과학기술정책에 관해 주의를 기울여야 한다. 시민의 삶에 지대한 영향을 미치는 과학기술과 정책에 시민이 능동적으로 참여하여 ‘과학기술의 민주화’를 이루어야 한다. 이를 위해 국가 교육과정은 제4차 산업혁명으로 도래하게 될 사회 변화에 능동적으로 관여할 수 있는 과학기술사회의 시민성 교육에 관심을 기울어야 한다. 과학기술에 대한 이해와 더불어 과학기술사회를 살아가는 시민의 권리와 책임에 관한 교육이 구체적으로 계획되고 체계적으로 수행되어야 한다.
