The study was conducted to analyze the current status and causes of smartphone overuse by students attending small-scale elementary schools in rural areas to make suggestions to prevent the harmful effects of smartphone overuse. Based on a prior study on the causes of smartphone overuse and the characteristics of elementary school students in rural areas, we wanted to find out the causes and prevention measures of smartphone overuse. Through in-depth interviews with elementary school students attending small elementary schools in rural areas as a research method, we found out the cause of smartphone overuse and looked at effective prevention measures. The study found that the subjects were low in terms of self-absorbedness, desire to achieve, and career maturity. Second, they were showing problems with domestic upbringing because of their grandparents or double-income parents in relation to domestic factors. And the level of awareness related to the overuse of smartphone by parents was also low. Third, after-school classes were not available for small-scale rural schools, and public education classes were not taking place normally. These findings were contributing to the excessive use of smartphones by the researchers. Based on these findings, the study suggested that small-scale elementary school students in rural areas should reduce their excessive use of smartphones.

이 연구는 농촌 소규모 초등학교에 재학 중인 학생들의 스마트폰 과다사용의 현황과 원인을 분석하여 스마트폰 과다사용의 폐해를 예방하기 위한 제언을 하기 위해 실시되었다. 구체적으로 스마트폰 과다사용의 원인과 농촌 초등학생의 특징에 대한 선행연구를 바탕으로 스마트폰 과다사용의 원인과 예방 방안에 대하여 알아보고자 하였다. 연구방법으로 농촌 소규모 초등학교에 재학 중인 초등학생들에 대한 심층면접을 통하여 스마트폰 과다사용의 원인과 효과적인 예방 방안을 분석하였다. 연구결과 연구대상자들은 자아성취감, 성취욕구 그리고 진로성숙도 측면에서 낮은 모습을 보이고 있었다. 두 번째로 가정적 요인과 관련하여 조손아동 내지 맞벌이 부모로 인하여 가정에서의 양육에 문제점을 나타내고 있었다. 그리고 부모의 스마트폰 과다사용과 관련된 인식 정도도 낮은 모습을 보이고 있었다. 세 번째로 농촌 소규모 학교에 적합한 방과 후 수업이 이루어지지 않는 모습을 보이고 있었으며 공교육 수업이 정상적으로 이루어지지 않고 있었다. 이러한 연구결과들은 연구대상자들이 스마트폰 과다사용을 하게 되는 원인으로 작용하고 있었다. 이 연구에서는 이러한 연구결과에 근거하여 향후 농촌 소규모 초등학교 재학생들의 스마트폰 과다사용 감소에 필요한 제언을 하였다.
