As the number of high-rise buildings increased, the number of large fires involving human casualties also increased. Although efforts have been made to prevent fires and their recurrence, popular demand is rising to ask for adequate measures based on the fire safety standards of architecture. Still, fire accidents in large buildings continue as evidenced by such fire as Milyang Sejong Hospital fire, Jecheon Sports Center fire, Jongno Inn arson, Incheon Seil Electronics fire, and Cheonan Ramada Hotel fire. Large-scale buildings and high-rise buildings are continuously being built, but the reality is that reasonable fire-fighting facilities are not in place to suit the characteristics of each building. Therefore, this study aims to examine the problems of safety that occur as the number of high-rise buildings increases, the problems of fire safety standards for buildings, and the laws related to fire fighting, and to find out the measures to cope with the fire, thereby reducing the damage caused by fire and securing fire safety.

고층건물이 많아지면서 최근 대형화재로 인한 인명피해가 발생하면서 건축물에 대한 화재안전기준 등을 토대로 화재에 대한 사전예방과 재발을 방지하고자 하는 노력이 많아 지고 있으며, 대책방안을 마련해 달라는 국민들의 목소리가 높아지고 있다. 밀양 세종병원 화재, 제천 스포츠센터 화재, 종로 여관 방화 사건, 인천 세일전자 화재 사고, 천안 라마다 호텔 화재사고 등 대형건물의 화재사고가 계속 이어지고 있다. 대형건물과 고층건물이 계속해서 신축되고 있지만 각각의 건축물에 대한 특성에 맞는 합리적인 소방설비가 갖추어지고 있지 않는 것이 현실이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 고층건물이 많아지면서 일어나게 되는 안전에 대한 문제점과 건축 물에 대한 화재 안전기준의 문제점, 소방 관련 법령에 대해 알아보고 사전 대처방안을 모 색함으로 화재로 인한 피해를 줄이고 화재 안전성을 확보하고자 한다.
