Taekwondo is an official Olympic event and trained internationally as martial arts or sports. Contrary to its popularity and status, formal uniform and system are not set up clearly. As World Taekwondo Headquarter, Kukkiwon administrates a Poom-Dan Promotion Test and is in charge of Taekwondo education and research. It conducted a research project, named “the development of Taekwondo uniform” from February to December, 2018. This research is a reporting article which develops a uniform for the Poom-Dan Promotion Test in order to have proper manners in Taekwondo test and judge Taekwondo motions accurately. The reason why is that there are various uniforms and logos which distract judge and stain dignity. It aims to develop an uniform for Taekwondo test which has motion functionality and body suitability for movement and motion accuracy, expertise and expression for judgement and at the same time, practicality, aesthetic impression, symbolic aspect and expressivity. The final design is a white vest which has practicality by reducing manufacturing price and symbolic aspect by having manners. It also has bands on the shoulder which mark corresponding Poom-Dan for test candidates. In particular, to express the pride for high leveller, gold color is used in shoulder bands and collars. However, a survey result about the establishment of the promotion test uniform is negative because of a burden for purchasing an additional uniform for the test, low frequency of wearing, the possibility of replacing it with a trainee uniform. Thus, it is necessary to make efforts to understand customers and to settle a new uniform.

태권도는 올림픽 정식 종목으로 세계인이 수련하는 무예 스포츠이지만, 태권도의 위상과 인기에 반해 공 인된 도복과 체계가 명확지 않은 문제점이 있다. 국기원은 세계 태권도본부로서 승품·승단 심사를 관장하고, 태권도 교육, 연구를 담당한다. 이에 따라 국기원은 공인된 도복 개발을 위해 2018년 2월부터 12월까지 태권 도 도복 개발 연구를 수행하였다. 특히 국기원은 심사에서 다양한 도복과 로고가 사용되어 심사에 집중하기 어렵다는 판단하에 심사의 예를 갖추는 동시에 동작을 평가하기에 용이한 심사복이라는 분야를 신설하였다. 본 연구는 심사복이라는 신설 분야의 개발을 보고하는 논문으로, 동작을 위한 동작 기능성, 신체 적합성뿐 아니라 심사의 동작 정확성, 숙련성, 표현성을 판가름하기 용이한 심사 적합성과 동시에 실용성과 심미성, 상징성을 가진 심사용 도복 제작을 목표로 하였다. 심사복은 경제 부담을 줄이고, 심사의 예를 갖춘다는 상징 성을 살려 조끼 형태의 심사복을 개발하였고, 어깨띠를 통해 응시하는 품·단을 표시할 수 있도록 제안하였다. 특히 고단자 심사복의 경우 고단자의 자부심을 나타내기 위해 고단자의 심사복 깃과 어깨띠에 금색을 넣어 명예와 권위를 표현하였다. 그러나 결과 보고를 통한 태권도 관계자, 관련 학과 학생의 설문 조사 결과 경제 부담과 낮은 사용 횟수, 수련복으로 대체 가능하다는 이유로 심사복 개발에 부정적인 의견이 과반수를 넘었 다. 심사를 관장하는 국기원은 심사복은 저렴한 가격에 구매 가능하고, 심사복을 수련에 활용해 수련에서도 자긍심을 고취할 수 있으며, 공인 심사복을 통해 심사의 예를 고취할 수 있다는 점을 소비자에게 이해시켜 심사복을 자연스럽게 정착시켜야 할 것이다.
