Objectives: To identify the similarities and differences in community participation patterns and environmental factors that affect community participation between Korean children with and without disabilities. Methods: This study used the Korean version of Participation and Environment Measure for Children and Youth (KPEM-CY) for 184 Korean children with and without disabilities aged 5 to 13 years. Analyses of Covariance (ANCOVA) to control for age and family annual income and Pearson chi-square tests were applied to compare differences in KPEM-CY item-level scores between two groups. Results: Compared to typically developing children, children with disabilities lower frequency and extent of involvement and their parents were less satisfied with their children’s community participation. Those parents reported that there were many factors hindering their children’s participation: cognitive/social abilities needed for community activities, relationship with peers, equipments and supplies, parent’s money and time. otherwise, personal/public transportation and community program/services were supports to community participation. Conclusion: Study findings help to identify limitation in participation of Korean children with disabilities in community activities and a lack of environmental factors supporting their participation. It provides occupational therapists with the fact that they need to have knowledge about participation concept and interaction between participation and environmental factors.

목적 : 본 연구는 장애의 유무에 따라 아동의 지역사회 활동 참여 양상 및 참여에 영향을 미치는 환경적 요인의 유사점과 차이점을 알아보고자 하였다. 연구방법 : 지역사회에 거주하는 5~13세 장애 및 비장애아동 184명을 대상으로 한국판 아동 및 청소년을 위한 참여와 환경 평가(Korean version of Participation and Environment Measure for Children and Youth; KPEM-CY)를 사용하였다. KPEM-CY의 항목별 점수에서 장애 및 비장애아동의 두 집단 간 차이점을 확인하기 위하여 아동의 연령 및 가족 연수입의 효과를 배제한 공분산분석과 피어슨 카이 제곱 검정을 사용하였다. 또한, 두 집단 간 차이를 시각적으로 분석하기 위해 radar plot을 사용하였다. 결과 : 비장애아동과 비교하여 장애아동은 참여 해보지 못한 지역사회 활동이 많았고, 대부분의 활동에서 낮은 참여빈도 및 몰입도, 그리고 부모 만족도를 나타냈다. 장애아동 부모들은 자녀가 지역사회 활동 참 여 시 방해요인들이 많다고 보고하였으며, 그 중에서도 활동 시 요구되는 아동의 인지 및 사회적 능력, 아동의 또래와의 관계, 장비 및 용품, 그리고 부모의 지원 가능한 자금 및 시간이 있었다. 반면에 아동의 활동 참여를 촉진하는 요인으로는 대중교통 및 개인 운송수단과 지역사회 프로그램 및 서비스가 있었다. 결론 : 본 연구의 결과를 통하여 장애아동 지역사회 활동 참여의 제한과 지역사회 참여를 촉진하는 환경적 요인들이 부족하다는 것을 확인하였다. 이는 작업치료사에게 장애아동의 지역사회 활동 참여 증진을 위하 여 참여의 다차원적 개념 이해의 필요성과 참여와 환경적 요인 간 상호작용에 대한 통찰력을 제공한다.
