Loneliness has been considered as one of the most psychological problems for mothers of disabled children and is associated with child abuse, depression, and suicidal ideation. This research study examined the impact of social support on loneliness among mothers of disabled children. Participants of 210 mothers were recruited from Seoul city and Gyeong-gi areas, and completed the questionnaires of loneliness, perceived social support, and social support network. Date collected from mothers were entered into T-test, Anova, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analyses. The research findings indicate that perceived social support is associated with a lower level of loneliness. Multiple regression showed that social support networks such as size and contact were not important predictors for mothers of disabled children. This research findings will be discussed in terms of social work practices. Recommendations to guide social workers or counselors in their work with mothers of disabled children.

장애아동 어머니들의 외로움은 아동학대, 우울증, 자살생각과 관련이 있고 장애 아동어머니들의 대표적인 심 리, 정서적 문제로 인식되어왔다. 본연구의 목적은 장애아동 어머니들의 사회적 지지가 외로움에 어떤 영향을 미치는 지 연구하고자 하였다. 서울 및 경기도 지역에 거주하는 총 장애아동 어머니 210명을 대상으로 수집한 외로움, 인지적 사회적지지, 사회적 관계망의 설문지 자료를 분석하였다. 본 연구의 통계는 독립표본 티 검증과 변량분석, 상관관계, 다중회귀 분석을 통해 분석하였다. 연구결과, 인지적 사회적지지 수준이 높을수록 외로움은 낮아지는 것으로 확인되었다. 그러나 다중회귀분석 결과 사회적 관계망 수와 접촉빈도는 장애아동의 어머니들 의 외로움 통계적으로 유의한 영향력을 미치지 못하는 것으로 확인되었다. 이 연구결과를 통하여 사회복지 실천 적 함의에 대한 제언을 하였다. 또한 사회복지사 및 상담사들을 위한 상담적 함의를 제공하였다.
