The purpose of this study was to investigate improvement measures for foreign students in the Taekwondo Department in South Korea. For this purpose, the investigator selected five foreign students attending a university in the Seoul metropolitan region in the Taekwondo Department and conducted an in-depth interview with them. The findings led to the following conclusions: first, improvement measures for foreign students in the Taekwondo Department in terms of subjects and studies include the development of programs to help them improve their Korean skills on an ongoing basis and the allocation of teaching assistants devoted to their smooth life and adjustment to school in South Korea; and secondly, one of improvement measures for foreign students in the Taekwondo Department in terms of career and employment is to provide them with detailed explanations about the current state of career and employment options related to Taekwondo. It is also required to encourage them to participate in many events related to Taekwondo and have various experiences while attending the Taekwondo Department. Foreign students that are from a distant country and have entered the Taekwondo Department in South Korea to specialize in Taekwondo are potential talents that will make huge contributions to the nation's Taekwondo diplomacy.

이 연구는 태권도학과 외국인 유학생들을 위한 개선방안을 살펴보는데 그 목적이 있었다. 이를 위해 수도권 내 대학의 태권도학과에 재학 중인 외국인 유학생 5인을 선정하여 심층면담을 실시하였고, 다음과 같은 결론을 도출하였 다. 첫째, 태권도학과 외국인 유학생들을 위한 교과 및 학업에 관련된 개선방안에는 외국인 유학생들의 지속적인 한국어 실력 향상을 위한 프로그램 개발과 외국인 유학생들의 원활한 한국생활 및 학교적응을 위한 전담 조교가 배정되어야 할 것이다. 둘째, 태권도학과 외국인 유학생들을 위한 진로 및 취업에 관련된 개선방안에는 외국인 유학생들에게 태권도 관련 진로 및 취업 현황에 대한 상세한 설명과 외국인 유학생들이 태권도학과 재학 중에 많은 태권도 관련 행사에 참여 하면서 다양한 경험을 하도록 유도해야 할 것이다. 먼 타지에서 대한민국의 태권도를 전공하기 위해 태권도학과에 입학 한 외국인 유학생들은 앞으로 태권도 외교에 큰 기여를 하게 될 잠재적 인재들인 것이다.
