The purpose of this study is to a) investigate the difficulties physically disabled, wheelchair􋹲confined women may face in using feminine hygiene products; and b) present a solution to these difficulties by designing a product that is both easy to use and protects the skin from fungus and other irritants. In this study, we determined that internal hygiene products such as tampons and menstrual cups were superior to their external counterparts, like sanitary napkins, due to their higher absorption rate and unlikeliness to cause skin irritation. We have also designed accessories that can be used with internal hygiene products that allow the devices to be inserted without needing to place fingers or hands inside the vagina, allowing a more comfortable experience for the user.

이연구의 목적은 지체장애인 여성의 신체에 더 적합하고 착용이 용이한 생리용품의 설계 변수를 제안하고, 휠체어 사용으로 인 해 월경 시 예상되는 피부질환으로부터 지체장애인 여성을 보호하여 안전성을 향상시키고 지체장애인 여성의 월경 관리에 대 한 편리함을 증진시키는 것이다. 이 연구의 결과를 요약하면 탐폰과 월경 컵과 같은 내부 위생 제품이 흡수율이 높고 피부 자 극을 유발할 가능성이 낮기 때문에 생리대와 같은 외부 위생 제품보다 우수한 것으로 나타나났다. 연구결과를 토대로 삽입형 생리용품을 대안으로 선택하였고, 동시에 기존 삽입형 생리용품의 단점이었던 착용 방법의 복잡함을 개선하여 질 안에서 손을 넣지 않고도 편하게 교체할 수 있는 보조용품의 설계변수를 제시하였다.
