Elementary school students who do not properly establish criteria for value judgment may continue to recognize accepted using wrongly expressed artwork published in textbooks for a lifetime. In this research, by presenting correctly expressed parts through an analysis of illustration published in elementary school national textbooks and a scheme that can express this correctly, accurate artwork with no mistakes in textbooks It is informing that it can be displayed, improving the importance of artwork in the process of compilation of textbooks, and presenting standards for illustration expression of textbooks. For this reason, in this research, for the history, function and importance of textbook illustrations, research on literature such as research papers and dissertations of relevant organizations, for illustration expression mistakes, in the elementary school national textbook of the revised curriculum of 2009. Through case studies of representation errors of posted artwork, after sorting errors by type, we presented suggestions for improvement of expression mistake that what type of error was found most often. The conclusions obtained through such research are as follows. In some instances of the social and cultural realm, situations prohibited by existing laws and regulations are represented by illustration, and there was a fear that students would accept misrecognition using textbooks. In the field of natural science, there were not many illustrators with expression mistakes, but there was a lack of consistency in time and seasons, and the need to pay close attention to expression of laboratory instruments was raised. In the example of the traditional culture area, I was able to know that it is difficult to express because of limitations that I can not touch frequently. Illustrative examples of this area should be thoroughly documented in advance, such as reference books in the relevant field, so that they can be portrayed correctly. An example of the identity area of the nation was found to be an error in how to display the national flag and expressing the flag.

그동안 교과서에 게재된 삽화에는 크고 작은 표현상의 오류가 있었는데 일부 표현 오류는 교 육과정이 계속 개정됨에도 같은 표현 오류가 반복적으로 나타나기도 한다. 그 이유는 교과서 편 찬 관계자들의 자질이나 능력 부족이라기보다는 정확한 표현에 대한 인식의 부족에서 기인하는 바가 크다고 본다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 ‘2009 개정 교육과정’의 초등학교 국정교과서에 게재된 삽화들의 표 현 오류를 살펴보고, 삽화별로 오류의 내용을 확인한 결과 다음과 같았다. 사회․문화 영역의 분석 결과에서는 사회․문화 영역은 학생들에게 올바른 사회 질서를 유지할 수 있도록 정확히 표현해야 함에도 불구하고 일부 삽화에서는 법률이나 규정으로 정해진 사항이 잘못 표현되어 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 자연 과학 영역의 분석 결과에서는 다른 영역에 비해 표현 오류 가 적게 나타났는데, 자연 과학 영역은 영역의 특성상 정확성이 강조되는 결과로 보인다. 전통문화 영역의 분석 결과에서는 자주 접할 수 없는 한계로 인하여 표현에 어려움이 있음을 알 수 있었다. 마지막으로 국가 정체성 영역의 분석 결과에서는 태극기의 작도는 비교적 정확했 으나 국기의 게양 방법이나 게양대에 대한 묘사에서는 일부 오류가 발견되었다.
