The goal of this study is to review various biometric technologies, which have been implemented domestically and abroad, to discuss the future prospects of those technologies. Recently, situations in which the safety of online activities have been threatened by the use of fake identities and identity theft have been occurring more frequently due to the rapid growth of hacking technology. Therefore, it is necessary to begin using certification to identify customers in online transactions. Biometrics, which use human biological or ethological characteristics to identify individuals, do so with the help of iris recognition, facial recognition, vein recognition, and fingerprint recognition technologies. The biometric industry is a field in which there are no great technical gaps between leading countries and developing countries. Therefore, for South Korea, which has formulated solid IT-base technology, the biometric technology field would be a promising field in which to invest. With this background, the review of various biometric technologies dealt with in this paper should be able to contribute to the popularization of the biometric system, as the importance of authentication and security grows online.
