This study aims to investigate types of instructor’s leadership, which are preferred depending on personality traits of Track & Field Athletes and furthermore to provide basic data to help instructors understand personality traits of athletes and express leadership that is suitable for personality traits of athletes. For achieving this purpose, 300 athletes from the 47th National Athletics Championships were collected. After removing unreliable responses, the remaining 291 questionnaires were used for the analysis. Frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha coefficient calculation, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed using SPSS WIN Ver. 18.0. The following results were obtained: First, among the sub-factors of athletes personality traits, conscientiousness and affinity influenced training and instruction of instructor’s leadership types. Second, among the sub-factors of athletes personality traits, conscientiousness and affinity influenced positive feedback of instructor’s leadership types. Third, among the sub-factors of athletes personality traits, neuroticism influenced authoritative behavior of instructor’s leadership types. Fourth, among the sub-factors of athletes personality traits, conscientiousness affected social support of instructor’s leadership types. Fifth, athletes personality traits did not significantly influence democratic behavior of instructor’s leadership types.

본 연구는 육상선수의 성격특성에 따라 선호하는 지도자리더십 유형을 규명하는데 그 목적이 있으며, 나아가 지 도자들이 선수들의 성격특성을 파악하여 그에 맞는 리더십을 발휘할 수 있도록 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다. 이와 같은 목적을 달성하기 위해 제47회 전국종별육상경기선수권대회에 참가한 선수 300명의 자료를 수집하였다. 이 중 불성실 한 응답을 제외한 291부의 설문지가 분석에 이용되었다. 자료처리는 SPSS 18.0 프로그램을 이용하여 빈도분석, 탐색 적 요인분석, 상관관계 및 다중회귀분석을 실시하였으며, 다음과 같은 결론을 도출하였다. 첫째, 육상선수들의 성격특 성 하위요인 중 성실성과 친화성이 지도자리더십 유형 중 훈련과 지도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 육상선 수들의 성격특성 하위요인 중 성실성과 친화성이 지도자리더십 유형 중 긍정적 피드백에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났 다. 셋째, 육상선수들의 성격특성 하위요인 중 신경증이 지도자리더십 유형 중 권위적 행동에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나 타났다. 넷째, 육상선수들의 성격특성 하위요인 중 성실성이 지도자리더십 유형 중 사회적지지에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 육상선수들의 성격특성은 지도자리더십 유형 중 민주적 행동에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않은 것으로 나타났다.
