Block chain is a technology that ensures the contract without trusted third party of the middle. It is mainly used for authentication of cryptocurrency transactions such as Bitcoin and Etherium. The block chain technology is widely used not only in the field of cryptocurrency but also in the fields of public record/security, industry and fintech/payments. In order to understand various application fields of block chain technology, patent data of related technology field was analyzed. Patent data provides various technical information. Therefore, technology can be easily grasped and promising technology fields can be found. In this paper, we analyze patent trends on the application field of block chain technology. In the last five years, we searched patents of Korea, US, Japan, Europe and China. As a result, we extracted 778 valid patents. As a result of analysis, China had the most patent applications. Block chain technology has been used in financial/asset transactions, cryptocurrency, e-commerce/ marketing, device/energy management, program/digital contents, logistics/product/production management, and public agency/enterprise management. In particular, this paper shows that block chain technology is utilized in institutions such as hospitals and schools, and block chain technology is widely used in energy, transportation, logistics and product management.

블록체인은 중간의 제3자 없이 신뢰할 수 있는 계약을 보장해 주는 기술로서, 비트코인 및 이더리움과 같은 암호화 폐 거래인증에 주로 사용되고 있다. 블록체인 기술은 암호화폐 분야뿐만 아니라 공공·보안, 산업 및 거래·결제 분야 등에 다양하게 활용되고 있다. 블록체인 기술의 다양한 활용분야를 알아보기 위하여 관련 기술 분야의 특허정보를 분석하였다. 특허정보는 다양한 기술정보를 제공하고 있으므로, 해당 기술의 동향을 쉽게 파악할 수 있으며, 향후 유망 기술 및 사업 분야를 발굴할 수 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 블록체인 활용분야 기술의 주요 국가의 특허출원 동 향, 블록체인 활용분야 기술별 출원 현황 및 국가 별 주요 출원인 현황을 알아보고자 한다. 이를 위하여 최근 5년 내에 출원된 한국, 미국, 일본, 유럽 및 중국의 특허를 검색하였고, 총 778건의 유효특허를 추출하였다. 분석결과, 중국이 가장 많은 특허출원을 하고 있었다. 블록체인 기술은 금융/자산거래, 암호화폐, 전자상거래/마케팅, 디바이 스/에너지관리, 프로그램/디지털콘텐츠, 물류/상품/생산관리, 공공기관/기업관리 등에 활용되었다. 특히 본 논문을 통해 병원 및 학교와 같은 기관에서도 블록체인 기술이 활용되어 있으며, 에너지, 이동수단, 물류 및 제품관리 등에 도 블록체인 기술이 다양하게 활용되고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
