The present study explored the effects of political interest, strength of political ideology, cross-cutting exposure, speech efficacy, and debate efficacy on political participation intention. The study used hieratical regression analysis to analyze the study's research questions and hypotheses with survey data collected from 400 undergraduate college students. First of all, we found that political interest and strength of political ideology played a large role increasing respondents' intention for political participation. Second, the study showed that cross-cutting exposure contributed to facilitating poliitcal participation intention. Third, we found that debate efficacy helped increase political participation intention. Finally, the study showed that speech efficacy had a positive impact on political participation intention among respondents with low political interest. The study discusses the implications for facilitating college students' political participation through speech and debate class.

본 연구는 정치관심도, 정치이념 강도, 이견노출, 그리고 스피치와 토론 효능감이 정 치참여 의도에 미치는 영향을 탐색하였다. 총 400명의 대학생을 대상으로 설문조사를 통해 회귀분석을 실시한 결과, 첫째, 정치관심도가 높을수록 그리고 정치이념의 강도가 강할수록 정치참여 의도가 높았다. 둘째, 이견노출에 대한 노출이 높은 사람일수록 높 은 정치참여 의도를 보였다. 셋째, 토론에 대한 효능감이 높은 사람들도 정치참여 의도 가 높았다. 넷째, 정치관심도가 낮은 사람이지만, 스피치 효능감이 높아지면 정치참여 의도가 높아지는 결과를 나타내었다. 본 연구결과를 바탕으로 다른 연령층에 비해 정치 참여가 상대적으로 낮은 대학생들에게 스피치와 토론 교육을 통해 정치참여를 촉진시 킬 수 있는 가능성과 함의를 논의한다.
