This paper is based on a R&E program which has been performed with two students in a science high school. The students enrolled in the Institute of Science Education for the Gifted at Chungnam National University last year and made a graduation report about the properties of the repeating decimals. After the research in the institute, the students have continued the study about the repeating decimals in the R&E program of the science high school, and also revised the report and found some additional meaningful results about the subject. We calculated the repeating decimals of some unit fractions and figured out the repeating portion of the repeating decimals. By observing the repeating portion, we could find several properties about the length and the constitutions of it. And in conclusion, we could prove the properties which we found are true in general. We used the software MATHEMATICA for calculating the repeating portion of repeating decimals.

본 연구는 과학고등학교 학생들이 대학부설 과학영재교육원 사사과정 재학시 수행한 탐구결과를 보완하고 발전시킨 과학고등학교 R&E의 결과를 바탕으로 이루어졌다. 소수, 소수의 거듭제곱, 등을 분모로 하는 단위분수의 순환마디의 길이와 순환마디의 구성에 대한 성질을 연구하였으며 여러 가지 의미 있는 결과들을 얻을 수 있었다. 몇 가지의 순환소수를 계산하고 순환마디를 관찰하여 순환마디의 길이, 순환마디의 구성에 대한 성질들을 찾아내었으며 이러한 성질들이 순환소수가 가지는 일반적인 성질임을 증명하였다. 순환마디를 계산하는 과정에서 수학소프트웨어인 MATHEMATICA를 사용하였다.
