Almost half a century has passed since Korea and Japan realized normalization in 1965. Ever since then, despite many efforts to improve mutual relationship, there also have been many problems between the two countries such as history problem, Yasukuni Shrine, and Dokdo, etc. It seems that the next 50 years will not be very smooth in the relationship between the two countries. In order to overcome conflicts between the two countries, it is necessary to establish 'trust process'. Korea-japan relationship should develop by searching for the trust process based on self identity of the two. To that end, the two sides need to expand cultural exchanges to exchanges in political area, and apply international universal standards to controversial issues. For the conflictual issues between the two parties, I would like to suggest the followings: (1) For the history disputes, it is necessary for two countries to try to cooperate in compiling 'Comparative Sources for Korean and Japanese History', which can contribute to the efforts to find out truth and mutual understanding; (2) The Comfort Women issue is solved by the following rule of ICJ: a claim for damage of the victims of anti-human crimes should not be given up by inter-national agreements; (3) Considering that the Yashkuni Shrine houses many war criminals in the Pacific War including 14 A-class war criminals, worshipping it is to justify the aggressive war of Japan, and to negate the criminal activities of war criminals. based on this, the solution should be searched for; (4) When the diplomatic relationship was established between Korea and Japan in 1965, the Dokdo issue was concealed by temporary agreement. If it continues to cause conflicts between the two peoples, it damages both peoples. The two peoples need to establish trust process over the issue. Now, the peoples have become mature. If the issue is not solved, there will be no future in the relationship between the two countries. To raise mutual trust between Korea and Japan up to the level among countries of the EU, it is necessary to do cultural understanding and systemize the trust process, based on truth findings.
