The South Korea - North Korea relations are under important turning points as there have been substantial progress since the end of the cold war which rested about a half century. The continued political and military conflicts between the South and the North after 2010, however, indicate that the relationship could turn back to the old regime characterized as stark conflicts between the two Korea. The current relationship is on the intersection between potential cooperation and existing conflicts, and under the transitional situation. The salient feature of the relationship between the two Korea is that they are structurally interdependent and mutually enforcing each other rather than exist as separate entities. Contrary to the relationship under the cold war, therefore, the relationship between the two Korea is progressing, yet maintains both the inertia from the past and the inherent possibilities for the future. The pertinent domain of future research is to suggest an ideal direction for the future relationship and to show how to mitigate the potential cost inherent in that direction for the reunification. Regardless of several potential variants of the path for the reunification, the persistence of coexistence and cooperation is of the utmost importance. The prerequisite for the reunification of the two Korea is that both Korea should be changed to aim for the ultimate peace community through mutual respect and coexistence without violence.
