The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of child abuse on persistent juvenile delinquency focusing on the sequential mediating effect of aggression and school maladjustment. In order to achieve this purpose, the study utilizes Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS), which is conducted by National Youth Policy Institute(NYPI). The analysis data integrated second and fourth wave of panel data of 1st year middle school students in order to achieve purpose. The results of the study are the following: First, the experience of child abuse during 2nd year of middle school does not have a direct effect on persistent juvenile delinquency but shows to have an influence on aggression. Second, aggression has a significant effect on school maladjustment, however, does not have a direct influence on the delinquency. Third, school maladjustment has shown a significant effect on the persistent juvenile delinquency. The outcome indicates a sequential mediating effect: (1)teenagers who embraced child abusive experiences are more likely to be offensive than those who have not (2)the aggression leads to school maladjustment, (3)and finally, this in turn triggers the persistency of juvenile delinquency. From these results, the study suggests political and practical implications for schools, local communities, and other resources to deter further juvenile delinquency.

본 연구는 성장기 학대경험이 청소년의 비행지속에 미치는 영향에서 공격성과 학교부적응의 순차적 매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 한국아동·아동청소년패널조사(Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey, KCYPS)의 중학교 1학년 패널의 2차년도 및 4차년도의 자료를 사용하여 중학교 2학년 때의 성장기 학대경험이 고등학교 1학년 때의 공격성, 학교부적응, 그리고 비행지속에 미치는 영향을 검증하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중학교 2학년 당시의 성장기 학대경험은 고등학교 1학년 시점의 비행지속에 직접적인 영향을 보이지는 않았지만, 공격성에는 직접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 검증되었다. 둘째, 공격성은 학교부적응에 유의미한 영향을 미치지만 비행지속에 직접적인 영향을 미치지는 않는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 학교부적응은 비행지속에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났는데, 이로써 성장기 학대경험에서 공격성, 학교부적응, 그리고 비행지속에 이르는 순차적 매개효과가 검증되었다. 결과를 바탕으로 이들의 비행 중단을 도모하기 위한 학교를 위시한 지역사회 유관 자원의 정책적·실천적 제언을 제시하였다.
