In this study, we are going to search some books for Novel Engineering. NE is a comprehensive theme to integrate reading, STEAM, Software education. NE consists of 7 steps; picking a book, identify problems, design and implementing solutions, feedback, upgrade solutions, reconstruct stories. Simple speaking NE help naturally perform STEAM and Software education while figuring out engineering solutions from books. So this paper is to describe books available as first step. We can select any picture book, cartoon, long story. Picture books would be helpful for elementary students. We investigate two school libraries in Jeollabokdo. All of books are categorized by literature, natural science, religion, history/geography, tech and science, arts, linguistics, generic. Fortunately most books are picture books. But all of them couldn’t be applied for NE. So We will introduce some books suitable for NE.

본 논문에서는 Novel Engineering(NE)을 위한 도서들에 대해서 알아보고자 한다. NE는 독서교육, STEAM교 육, 소프트웨어교육을 융합한 종합적인 주제이다. NE의 단계는 책 읽기, 문제 인식, 해결책 제시, 해결책 구현, 피드백, 업그레이드, 이야기 재구성의 7단계로 이루어진다. 간단히 말하면, NE는 책에서 공학적인 문제를 찾아 해결하는 과정에서 STEAM교육과 소프트웨어교육이 자연스럽게 이루어질 수 있다. NE의 처음 단계인 책 읽기 단계에서 공학적인 요소를 추출할 수 있는 책을 선택해야한다. 책은 초등학교 학생들이 많이 읽는 그림책, 만화 책, 소설책 등 모두 해당된다. 이를 위해서 전라북도 소재 초등학교 2곳의 학교도서관에 소장된 책의 종류를 조사하였다. 조사 결과, 문학, 자연과학, 종교, 역사/지리, 철학, 기술과학, 예술, 언어, 총류로 분류가 되어있었다. 조사 대상인 학교 도서관은 모든 책들이 그림책으로 분류가 되어있었다. 이 중에 NE 수업에 적합한 몇 가지 책을 소개해보고자 한다.
