- This paper analyzes the factors that affect operational efficiency of the 2nd scale hospital using Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) and Tofallis profile analysis. The result of this paper shows that the location, the operational character(general vs specialized), the major treatment service type of hospital do not affect operational efficiency respectively. On the view point of operational efficiency the 2nd scale hospitals can be categorized in two group, one is relatively large hospital with high efficiency, the other is small hospital with low efficiency. The means of the number of doctors, nurses, clerical staffs, beds of the former hospital group are larger than the means of the latter group, and the mean of efficiency score measured by DEA of the former is higher than that of the latter. In addition this paper shows that the effect of the economy of the scale exists in hospital industry and the efficiency of beds is the most important factor on operational efficiency of hospital.
