The objective of this study is to explore the usefulness of the methodology of evolutionary economics on the New political economy. Following steps have been pursued in order to achieve the study objective. First, the meaning of New political economy in the standpoint of evolutionary economics has been identified by investigating the relation between evolutionary perspective and Marxian political economy. Second, by examining the characteristics of evolutionary economics methodology how the analytical method of evolutionary economics contributes in developing a New paradigm of political economy. Third, it is attempted to relate the evolutionary economics and the new political economy based upon the recent study results reported in economics literature. The results of the study can be summarized as follows. First, in deepth consideration of the usefulness of evolutionary economics to the New political economy suggests; ① possibility as microfoundation of New political economy, ② ease of selections in methodological characteristics, ③ reproduction mechanism and diversity of system transition analysis. Then, is evolutionary economics vitamin or virus to the new political economy? It depends on how well the balance can be maintained between the evolutionary economics method of 'appreciated theorizing' and the political economy method of abstraction in the analysis of social relations.Second, radical institutionalism receives attention in respect to the possibility of nexus between the evolutionary economics and the New political economy. Because radical institutionalism analyzes the institutions as embedded class relations. Also, in the research areas of evolutionary economics, the analysis of microfoundations of path dependency and evolutionary perspective in system transition stimulates developing new paradigms of political economy.

진화경제학의 방법론적 특성은 전체적으로 자본주의 사회의 현실 설명력을 높이는데 도움을 준다. 특히 새정치경제학에 대한 진화적 관점의 유용성을 보다 구체적으로 살펴보면, ① '새정치경제학'의 미시적 기초로서의 가능성, ② 방법론적 특성의 취사선택의 용이성, ③ 재생산 메커니즘 및 체제분석의 다양성 등으로 요약될 수 있다. 그렇다면 과연 진화경제학은 새정치경제학의 비타민인가 바이러스인가? 그것은 진화경제학의 평가적 이론화에 의한 현실 설명력 증대와 정치경제학의 추상방법에 의한 사회관계(계급관계) 분석이 상호 얼마나 긴장관계를 유지하는가에 달려있다. 최근 진화경제학의 연구성과를 토대로 진화경제학과 '새정치경제학'의 연계가능성은 계급관계가 체화된 것으로서 제도를 분석하고 있는 급진파 제도주의가 주목된다. 그리고 진화경제학의 연구영역 가운데 경로의존의 미시적 기초와 체제이행에 대한 진화적 관점에서의 분석 등은 새로운 정치경제학의 패러다임을 구축하는데 시사하는 바가 매우 크다.
