The purpose of the study was to analyze media discourse on the manipulation of state affairs by an unofficial individual, followed by the impeachment of President Park. Editorials from five Korean daily newspapers were analyzed. The study found that far more editorials were published on the impeachment of President Park than other significant issues. It was also found that editorials were very aggressive and the frame of media discourse changed in a short time span. In addition, this study confirmed that the impeachment discourse formed a media consensus from the early stage even before the National Assembly’s approval and the Constitutional Court’s judgement. Among the frames, the ‘responsibility attribution’ frame outnumbered others. While no antagonistic tone was found between progressive and conservative newspapers at the macro level discourse, the tone on ‘Sewol 7hours’, ‘investigation of conglomerate CEO’, ‘President imprisonment’ showed a decided difference at the micro level discourse.

본 연구는 비선실세 국정농단과 대통령 탄핵사건에 대한 미디어 담론의 특성을 체계적으로 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 국내 5개 일간신문의 사설을 분석대상으로 선정해 내용분석을 실시한 결과 대통령 탄핵 관련 사설의 보도량 자체가 우리나라 신문 역사에서 단일 주제의 사건으로는 이례적으로 매우 많았던 것으로 분석되었다. 각 신문들은 사설을 통해 국정농단 및 탄핵 관련 이슈에 대해 적극적이고 공세적인 논조를 취하면서, 담론 구성이 매우 빠르고 급박하게 진행되었던 것으로 나타났다. 또한 국회 탄핵소추안 가결이나 헌법재판소의 탄핵심 판이 이뤄지기 이전인 사건 초기단계에서 이미 대통령의 퇴진이나 탄핵이 불가피하다는 취지 의 ‘탄핵’ 담론이 넓게 형성돼 온 점도 확인되었다. 사설의 프레임 구성에 있어서는 ‘책임귀인 프레임’이 가장 많았다. 거대 담론에서는 진보적, 보수적 언론 간에 대립적 논조가 나타나지 않았으나 ‘세월호 7시간’, ‘재벌기업 총수 수사’, ‘대통령 구속’ 등과 같은 미시적 담론에서는 논조의 차이가 드러났다.
