The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics of how a town regeneration project currently being implemented in Jwacheon-dong, Busan reflects the ‘placeness,’ or sense of place, of Jwacheon-dong, and what relation it has with the daily lives of its residents. In Jwacheon-dong, twenty-eight unit projects under seven major projects have been completed or are currently being implemented. To identify the characteristics of a place, first, this study analyzed whether the site of each unit project being implemented has the characteristics of a passage or of a center. Second, this study analyzed whether the ‘sense of a place’ relies primarily on the visual sense or on other senses. Last, this study analyzed the boundary types of different places in terms of physical access and control. From the perspective of the relation between a place and everyday life, each place is developed into a structure to enhance mutual connectivity, and is also given character by a structure that complexly stimulates the senses that experience a place. In conclusion, each place is given character by causing newly-created places to have natural relations with existing everyday life space by blurring the boundary in the relations with the surroundings, in order to improve the accessibility of the town as space for daily life.

본 연구의 목적은 최근 마을재생사업이 한창인 부산의 좌천동에서 벌어지고 있는 마을재생사업이 좌천동의 장소성을 어떻게 반영하고 있으면서 또한 주민들의 일상의 생활과 어떻게 관계를 맺고 있는지 그 특징을 규명하는 것이다. 좌천동에는 크게 7가지의 사업명으로 28가지의 단위 사업들이 이루어졌거나 현재 진행 중이다. 장소의 특징을 분석하기 위하여 첫째로 각 단위사업이 시행되고 있는 장소가 통로적 성격인지 중심적 성격인지를 분석하였다. 둘째는 장소에 대한 감각을 주로 시각적 감각에 의존하는지 또는 다른 감각들에 의존하는지를 분석하였다. 마지막 셋째로는 다양한 장소의 경계유형을 물리적 접근과 통제의 관점에서 분석하였다. 장소와 일상생활과의 관계의 관점에서 각각의 장소는 서로 연계성을 높이는 구조로 발전되어 있으며 장소를 경험하는 감각들을 복합적으로 자극하기 위한 구조 또한 하나의 특징이다. 마지막으로 각각의 장소들은 일상의 생활공간으로서 접근성을 높이기 위하여 주변과의 관계에서 그 경계를 모호하게 하여 새롭게 탄생된 장소들이 기존의 일상의 공간과 자연스러운 관계를 맺도록 하는 특징을 갖고 있다.
